Principal Message

Greetings Wonderful Dunstan Families,
As we prepare for this school year we have developed scheduling structures for first semester. The Green Mountain articulation area (high school and middle school) have aligned our schedules to benefit families who may have students in multiple schools. We hope this is helpful for siblings and families on our hybrid learning model.
As you know, based on the rising cases of COVID-19, Jeffco School District shifted into 2 options for the start of this school year: a) our hybrid model which will have 50% of the students attending in the school building every Monday and Tuesday and the other 50% attending in the school building every Wednesday and Thursday with every child attending remote/online learning every Friday OR b) fully online/remote Monday through Friday each week. Please note: during the days that hybrid students are not in the school building, they are expected to attend class online.
Based on these options, Jeffco needs every family to take and submit an updated survey indicating if they select the hybrid or fully online option for first semester. In order to create a schedule for your student, every family must complete one survey for each student. Please complete the updated family survey link below to indicate your learning preference on or before Friday, August 7, 2020.
Although each Jeffco secondary school was offered the option of partnering with Jeffco Virtual Academy (JVA) to teach our remote learning students, I consulted with our teacher leadership team and several parents. The overarching consensus and feedback helped us decide to have Dunstan teachers serve our online learners. If families truly want Jeffco Virtual Academy, that is available to them to apply. However, the families with whom I spoke said they want Dunstan teachers and our curriculum for their students. Had we selected to partner with JVA there were no guarantees that your student would have a Dunstan teacher. As many of you know Dunstan has a great reputation and many people are wholeheartedly committed to the Green Mountain area and our schools. As a result, we will problem-solve as a staff. Keeping your students aligned with Dunstan will create a smoother transition for them when we return to fully in-person learning and insures a continuous learning experience for our articulation area.
In these challenging times, we are encouraged by and appreciate your ongoing flexibility, patience, and commitment to maintaining high expectations at Dunstan and for the greater Green Mountain area. Please communicate with us if your family has unique needs that do not fit into the options that are presented in the new survey. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Our next communication will include information about: school supplies (fully online and hybrid supplies), links to upcoming meetings for 6th graders and their families, and student schedules.
With great respect and gratitude for our partnership,
Jennifer Pennell, Dunstan Middle School Principal
