What Does STE Learning Look Like in Plymouth?
You may wonder what science and technology/engineering (STE) education in Plymouth looks like? Perhaps you recently moved to town or your child started in the Plymouth schools just this month. Either way, we want you know that our goal in STE is to provide learning experiences driven by observable events that students want to figure out and problems they want to solve.
This video (https://youtu.be/_VNsPCQ0AK0) will present you with an overview of our program. You can also read more in-depth about our program here (https://www.plymouth.k12.ma.us/Domain/1912).

Kindergarten Garden
IBES principal Erica Manfredi was treated to a healthy snack grown and harvested by Mrs Blauss’ kindergarten classroom. The basil was started from seed last February in the classroom kinder-garden, then transplanted in May to the outdoor garden beds. Tomatoes from the community gardens initiative of Tera Cura gave the class tiny tomato plants. Families cared for the gardens over the summer and the current class is enjoying the harvest.

Instrumental Opportunities
Our instrumental music program at PSMS is thriving. Between Concert Bands, Orchestras, Jazz Band, Allegro Band, and private lessons, there are tons of ways for students to flex their musical muscle! We look forward to our many upcoming field trips, including to Bridgewater State University, the Plymouth Philharmonic, and the Trills & Thrills Festival at Six Flags New England, as well as to our district's elementary schools and other local performances! There has never been a better time to be an instrumental musician at PSMS!
Interacting with the Environment
Mr. Herbert's classes took a field trip around the school to search for ways that humans interact with our natural environment. Specifically, how do we change, use or adapt to our surroundings? Mr. Herbert uses sunscreen to adapt to a sunny climate, we use solar panels to harness the sun's energy, and we change the land as we replant trees that had been cut down when building our school.
Plymouth North High School
Spanish Exchange
Plymouth North is hosting students and teachers from IES GarcĂa Morato for our 2019-2020 Spanish exchange trip. We are excited to host two teachers and 21 amazing students from this amazing high school in Madrid to give them a full taste of our culture and way of life in Plymouth. In addition to this, we hope to build strong international friendships that will give students motivation for learning and exploring their world going forward. Our friends from Spain will return the favor when we travel with 22 students and three teachers from our combined North-South High School exchange this coming April break. We will be hosted by our same exchange pals, but this time in their homes as we meet their families and learn about our cultural similarities and differences. Plymouth high school students have the opportunity to travel to Spain or France on exchange trips that run every other year and strive to maintain full reciprocal exchanges with home stay and cultural immersion as the focus. If you or your family are interested in attending an exchange, contact your Spanish or French teacher for more information!
