Fabra Elementary
Falcon Connection - September '18
A message from Dr. Hinojosa
Dear Fabra Parents,
We are in week five of our 2018-2019 school year and are very proud of our students for doing such a fantastic job at school not only showing engagement and work ethic in the classroom, but also great behavior and character throughout the campus. There have been many Falcon Flyers, positive behavior referrals, and announcement kudos recognizing students over the last month.
Below are a few announcements, procedure reminders, and upcoming events to keep you in tune with all things Fabra. As always parents, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Mrs. Howell, Mr. Latiolais, and I, as well as all our teachers and staff are here to help with what you may need and in making your experience at our school a great one. All should be receiving classroom newsletters for grade level specific information. We value the opportunity to work with your children daily and appreciate your endless support in all that we do.
Thank you!
- Beto Hinojosa, Principal
"A'" Rated School!
State ratings were shared last month and Fabra Elementary received an "A" which puts us among the very best schools in the state. While we all know that there is much more to a school than a standardized test, our state accountability system does measure overall student achievement on state standards, school progress over time and how that growth compares to similar schools, and how well student groups within a school are performing. In addition to our A rating, we earned a Distinction Designation for closing performance gaps which was an area of focus for our school.
We are very proud of our staff and students for maintaining such a positive school culture and climate that allows our students to excel in their growth. As we move forward into this school year, we will continue providing our students rich learning experiences in and out of the classroom that go beyond state assessments. As a campus, we are committed to being an "A" in fine arts, extracurricular programs, 21st century skills, and more.

Genius Hour Help Needed!
Do you have a skill, talent, or hobby that you would like to share with our students? If so we would love your help at our first Genius Hour on Wednesday, October 17th. On this day students will sign up for a “class” with a small group of 8-10 students. Our goal for this day is to expose our students to a variety of different activities they can learn from and enjoy. If you are interested in volunteering a half or full day, please simply reply to this email and I will get more information to you about this great program.
KFES Live Announcements
Did you know that we have live announcements every morning? Our KFES students do a wonderful job bringing our campus daily news such as the weather, upcoming events, fun facts, academic reminders and more. We also use the announcements to recognize positive character and behaviors often. If your child said “I was on the announcements today!,” it is a big deal!

Thank You PTO & Community Sponsors!
Our PTO recently announced various donations from community businesses that will fund some great projects for our students including shade canopies and water bottle refill stations. We also had a sponsor who will be purchasing wrist bands for EVERY STUDENT at our campus for our upcoming Fabra Fall Fest! Thank you to all of our sponsors and our PTO for helping bring the very best to our students!

Falcon Fathers Program
Last year was our first year for Falcon Fathers and was a great success. Our students loved seeing dads, step-dads, big brothers, uncles, grandfathers and father figures spend the day at FES. Falcon Fathers spends an entire Friday with us starting at our live newscast in the morning and moving on to different activities during the day. We are looking for two Falcon Fathers every Friday this year. If you are interested, please stop by the office and visit with Leigh Ann as you will need to submit a volunteer background check. On the day you volunteer, you will be given a schedule which includes spending some time in your child’s classroom/CAMP class, as well as conducting security walks, reading to students in the library, helping our with lunch duty, and more.
Sign up for Falcon Fathers below:
Safety & School Operations
Safety is our number one priority. An important part of our safety plan includes having monthly evacuation and lock down drills. Before each drill, we explain to our students the reason why we conduct them, inform them of our behavior expectations, and review procedures. We are working with the district’s Safety and Security Coordinator in the implementation of our safety plan. If you have any specific questions regarding these drills, please feel free to contact us.
Our morning and afternoon dismissal process has been very smooth thanks to everyone’s courtesy and understanding of our procedures. As a reminder, please do not drop off any student in either parking lots. You are welcome to park and walk students to the crosswalk where they will be greeted by a crossing guard. If you are in our car rider line and do not have your sign, we ask that you pull up to the front where we will verify your ID and issue a new sign.
Parents are always welcome to sign in and join their child for breakfast and lunch. When signed in, visitors should remain in the cafeteria area unless you have an appointment with a teacher or are scheduled to volunteer in a classroom. While having lunch with you in the cafeteria, students can invite one friend to eat with them. Due to allergy and dietary concerns, visitors can only bring lunch for their own student and not for their friend.
Thanksgiving Dessert Fundraiser
This one time a year fundraiser makes a great difference for our students and we appreciate your help in making it successful! Our fundraising company is local, baking their goods in La Vernia, Texas. If we have 50% participation this year, we will receive 50% of the total sales. That can really go a long way for our students!
Technology Family Night
Fabra Family Nights begin on Thursday, October 4th with our “Roll the Device” Technology Family Fun Night. The event begins at 6:00 PM and students and families will have an opportunity to explore the various technology STEM items at Fabra such as robotics, coding, apps, and more. Parents will also be able to ask any Skyward questions and set up online viewing access for progress reports and report cards. We hope to see you here!
