COUGAR COURIER
October 5th, 2018
From the desk of Principal Ruiz
A friendly reminder: when picking your scholar up from school, all drivers must use Lane #1, which is closest to the school. This rule is enforced for the safety of all scholars. We appreciate your support.
This week our CIA Cougars welcomed the addition of the new CIA playground. Our scholars were able to swing, spin, climb, and enjoy physical activity on the playground designed specifically for them!
A few parent volunteers are needed to sell candy before the Music Concert scheduled for Thursday, October 11th; parent volunteers are needed from 5:00 - 5:30. Table, pricing and candy will be provided. Please contact Mr. Iwaniec Diwaniec@sbcsc.k12.in.us if you are willing to volunteer for the selling of candy before the concert. In advance, we thank you for supporting the fine arts department and the CIA Cougars!
Our CIA scholars that participate in Band, Orchestra and Choir will be performing twice this week. We encourage each family to attend one of the concerts in support of the fine arts department. The concerts will be held in the main gymnasium at the following times:
Wednesday, October 10th: 2:15 P.M. (parents will enter through door #1)
Thursday, October 11th: 5:30 P.M. (parents will enter through door #18)
We look forward to seeing you there!
Our CIA Cougars will have the opportunity to donate spare change to support "Pennies for Patients". The week of October 22nd - 26th, our Cougars are encouraged to bring their spare change to support breast cancer awareness. The money raised will benefit a CIA family that is currently battling breast cancer in addition to local families that are fighting cancer. Collect spare change to support those in need.
With scholars in mind,
Ms. Angela Ruiz, Ph.D. Candidate, Ed.S.

Honor Roll News
Here at Clay International Academy, we value and acknowledge all scholars for their great achievements. We especially praise scholars who go over and beyond the means to strive for success such as earning Honor Roll. Scholars who earn 3.0 or higher on their report cards will be recognized for Honor Roll and will be rewarded a BINGO party at the end of each quarter. Please speak with your scholar the importance of doing their very best and please be on the lookout for further Honor Roll information.
Gather your Box Tops to raise money for CIA
Yes, it is true...if our CIA families collect box tops, we earn money.
Here is how this works: CIA families, every time you use a General Mills product, cut off the BoxTop label and send it to school with your scholar. 400 scholars X 10 BoxTops per scholar = $400 for CIA! This is a fantastic opportunity because there is no need to purchase anything special. Many families end up with General Mills products in their homes after a trip to the store. We encourage each family to ask your friends, relatives and neighbors to do the same. Begin your search for the Box Top label! A collection box will be placed in the main office; please send all labels to school with your scholar.
A Salute to Veterans
Did you know that November 11th marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended WWI? November 11th was selected as Veteran's Day because of the significance of the treaty that was signed on this day, 100 years ago. This year will be our 99th Veteran's Day! If you would like to spend some time learning about the end of WWI with your scholar, click here.
The CIA Cougars aim to honor those who fought during WWI and who are currently members of any branch of the US Military. Please email the names of your family members that have served or are currently serving in any of the Armed forces to Mrs. Pol so that we may include them in the recognition ceremony that will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018.

Student Council (STCO) News
STCO is up and running with new members being added daily! We are excited to inform that we will be representing CIA on October 11th at the SBCSC's Alumni "Big Event!" Mrs. Smith, one of the CIA administrators, will be leading the CIA team as we wear our school colors and display our school pride! We welcome all families who would like to join us for this event at School Field. We will be arriving no later than 4:45 P.M., and be on the field at 5:00 P.M. sharp.
STCO scholars are working on scheduling a number of events that allow them to both make a difference, and be present in our community. First off, we will be hosting a Fall Food drive that will run for 3 weeks from Monday, October 29th until Friday, November 16th. We look forward to your donations to ensure the food bank has ample food to help those with needs in our community during the holiday season.
