The advanced metal shop class has been given a kit to build a 12 ft. 4-person jet boat from Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board. Currently, there are 6 students who are working on this project. More will join once they can advance their skill set to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to safely perform the work needed to complete this project. Once the boat is assembled, the students will then tear a part a motor and the gauges from a jet ski to assemble to the boat to give it power.

Please join us for a night of musical entertainment on Thursday, November 30th, as our band and choir students showcase their hard work at our winter concert held at Otis K. Murry court at 7:00 PM.

If you would like to purchase a yearbook for this year they are $20 until December 15th - after Winter Break the price will increase. Please see the office or Ms. Pearson for a preorder form.

Winter Athletes who plan to play basketball or participate in cheer you need to be signed up on FamilyID and have a current sports physical on file with the office before the first date of practice. Pay to play fee is due before the first competition.

On Wednesday, a representative from WyoTech visited Bandon High School and met with Mr. Holycross's 3rd and 4th period students. WyoTech is one of the top auto trade schools in the country. This trade school provides 3 core programs and 6 specialty programs that prepare students for careers as technicians in the automotive and diesel industry.

During advisory period this week, a representative from Josten's distributed order packets to all the seniors and discussed the different purchase options they have available to them.

The class of 2026 will be having a bake sale at McKay's on Monday, November 20th from 10 AM - 6 PM. Come support the sophomore class and get some yummy treats right before the Thanksgiving Holiday!

On 11/17, the entire school went to the Sprague to watch Geoffrey Castle perform a Celtic Christmas Celebration on his fiddle.

The HLMS winter choir concert is going to be held at the Sprague Theater on December 5th at 7pm.

HLMS will be reintroducing sexual health into our health curriculum for 7th/8th graders this year. The focus is biological and safety-related, including lessons on changes during puberty, the male and female reproductive systems, infant and child development, and staying healthy as you age. Any family wishing to exempt their child from this piece of our classroom health instruction will be able to do so and will have access to the topics to ensure that their child is exposed to the information in a way that feels appropriate and comfortable for our families. Our curriculum is Glencoe Teen Health, published by McGraw Hill. If you are interested in previewing our curriculum prior to this course of study, we will have materials available at the front office. All of our students should have signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

We reached out goal of raising $17,000 to go towards our new playground equipment! The students raised $17,461.20.

Our Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a Holiday fundraiser Wednesday, Nov. 29th to Friday Dec. 1st. It is called the Penguin Patch and gifts will be available for purchase as low as 25 cents. The idea is that kids can shop for gifts for their loved ones for Christmas.

A flier of information is coming home today (Nov. 17th).

The Penguin Patch will be in the library and each class will have a scheduled time to take their class to the library to shop.

Valley Flora wanted to alert you to a few new programs that we - and other NW farms - are spearheading in in order to make fresh, local produce more accessible to low income families in our community. We’re trying to get the word out as widely as possible. If you have a spot to hang a poster (attached below), or room for a mention in your next newsletter, that would be wonderful! • Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB): a program that helps low-income Oregonians purchase more fruits and vegetables while supporting local, family farms. Folks with SNAP benefits can purchase one of our farm’s community supported agriculture (CSA) shares and DUFB will provide 1:1 matching funds (they pay half the cost of the CSA with SNAP and DUFB covers the other half). It's a win-win that strengthens our community by providing better access to fresh, healthy food while helping local farmers earn a living.
