Open House

Thank you all for attending our Open House yesterday! We enjoyed seeing you again and having the opportunity to share the learning that goes on in the classroom. We hope that it was informative, as well as fun (as all learning should be) for you!

Weekly Happenings

This week, we reviewed pertinent comprehension skills (sequencing events, main characters, setting, author's purpose, and main idea). Each learner created a newletter that incorporated all the comprehension skills we reviewed this week about a book of his/her choice. We also continued to work on reading with a partner in order to build coaching, fluency, and summarizing skills, We learned that great coaches are ones who are encouraging and allow you to make and learn from your mistakes.

In spelling, we talked about words with the long o sound spelled with oa and ow.

In social studies, we completed our study of the United States symbols and shared our findings with classmates .

In math, we practiced creating our own story problems. Learners illustrated and wrote a fact for their story problem that showed how to solve it. We participated in a gallery walk, viewing and solving each other's story problems.

In science, we began our unit on solids and liquids. The learners participated in hands-on investigations to determine what materials solids are made up of and how to describe their properties.
