Knightly News - February 2023
Ready to Learn Be Responsible Be Respectful Be Safe
I LOVE TO READ MONTH STARTED Tuesday, February 1st!
I Love To Read Activities
Week 1 and 2 (February 1st-11th): BOOKMARK CHALLENGE
This has been a favorite activity over the year so we will start with it! Students can pick up a form with a bookmark template to design/decorate/color. The winners will be used as Due Date bookmarks at book check-out for the rest of the school year!
Week 2 (February 7th-11th): STORY QUILT
Students will get one square and make a visual representation of their favorite book. All the quilt pieces will be put together to make a paper quilt. We hope to make "classroom quilts" or maybe a few "school quilts", depending on how many quilt squares we receive.
Friday, February 11th: COZY READING DRESS UP DAY
Everyone can wear their favorite comfy clothes/pajamas/bunny slippers, or whatever they wear to cozy up and read!
Week 3 (February 14th-18th): READ CANADIAN AUTHORS
There will be a great selection of books on display in the library by Canadian authors that teachers and students can check out. There is also a Collection in Destiny Discover called "Canadian Authors" so anyone can peruse the titles. (Reminder to parents that you can access library book search from our school's website if you want to help your child to find a Canadian book to read!).
Week 4 (February 22nd-28th): DESTINY DISCOVER
There will be a Destiny Discover Scavenger Hunt! Destiny Discover chromebooks will be set up in the library so that students can use them during their library period to "scavenger hunt" for books.
Activities All Month:
"WE READ TOO! CAN YOU GUESS WHO?"
Pictures of favorite books and staff members will be on bulletin boards - can you match the book with the staff person?
"I LOVE MY LIBRARY BECAUSE..."
There will be heart shaped cutouts available in the library for students to take and fill out/color/cut out and return to the library to display.
TOP READER PRIZES
There will be prizes awarded for top readers in each homeroom! This will continue for the whole month, and will be tracked by the library.

Black History Month
Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honor the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities.
The 2022 theme for Black History Month is: “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day,” which focuses on recognizing the daily contributions that Black Canadians make to Canada.
No matter where you live, we invite all Canadians to learn more about these communities, and how they continue to help shape the story of Canada.
