Dear Gentry Families,
It is hard to believe that we are closing in on our final 13 days of school. As always, from this point forward the days will begin to move by very rapidly. As we, students, teachers and administrators alike, prepare to enjoy our end-of-year activities (6th-8th grade Field Days, Virtual Musical Theatre Showcase Performance and 8th grade Transition Ceremony, to name a few), please never hesitate to contact our main office (214-3240) if you have any questions regarding the details of any of these events. As the humorous warning goes... hold on to your hat!
Enjoy your weekend!
Spirit Week Starts Monday!
Gentry will be participating in a school wide spirit week next week, May 17th-21st! We encourage EVERYONE to participate, and if students participate they and their class might be surprised with a small prize!
COVID-19 Vaccination Day at Gentry
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be given free of charge to students 12 years of age and older at Gentry Middle School on May 24, 2021, from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be on site to administer the vaccine. This opportunity to have your child vaccinated is strongly encouraged, but it is NOT mandatory.
For your child to be vaccinated, the COVID-19 School-Based Vaccination Consent under Emergency Use Authorization Consent Form must be:
● FULLY completed and SIGNED by the parent or legal guardian
● Completed for EACH CHILD (you must return a separate form for each child you want vaccinated)
● Returned to your school nurse by May 21. These may be emailed to our school nurse, Jennifer Ferguson at jferguson@cpsk12.org, faxed to 214-3241 or dropped off in the main GMS office.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine that will be offered at this time. It has been given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is approved for use on anyone 12 of years and older. The EUA can be found at: https://www.como.gov/health/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/2021/01/Pfizer-EUA-for-Recipients.pdf. You may also contact your school nurse or Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services for more vaccine information.
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is a two-dose vaccine. The health department will return to Gentry Middle School on June 18, 2021, to administer the second dose. If your student is unable to attend our June 18th second dose date, you can feel free to have them receive their second dose of the vaccine on 6/21 from 8:00-10:00 am at either Oakland, Lange, West or Smithton Middle schools. Students will receive their vaccination card after their second dose for their records. Please keep the card in a safe place, as it is proof of vaccination. Please see further information and the consent form below.
Lost and Found Items
Please don't delay in having your student stop by our lost and found located in our cafeteria to check for lost items. Lost items that are smaller and of more value are locked and stored in the main office. Please note that ALL items will be removed from the school and donated to a local charity by the end of the day on Thursday, June 3rd.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks will be distributed to students on the last day of school, June 3. If your student will be absent the last day of school, then you will need to notify the office. We will keep track of those students who will not be here on the last day so that we can get their yearbooks to them on their final day of school for this year.
Track Uniform Turn-In
If your student participated on the GMS Track and Field team and they are NOT able to attend the assigned uniform turn in date next week (Wednesday, May 19) we would like to encourage them to turn their track uniform into the main office. Please have them place their clean uniform (shorts and jersey top) in a plastic bag with their name clearly marked on the outside of the bag. Thanks for your help with this!
