Teacher Appreciation Week
Next week, help us show our teachers some love!
On behalf of the Parents and School Board:
Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, May 6th through 10th, and we are asking you all to join us in celebrating the remarkable teaching staff we have here at Saint Michael School.
We have planned some fun activities and thoughtful gestures as a way to show our thanks. Please look over the schedule of events and help your children to participate in as many days as possible... the kids really do love these opportunities to express gratitude and love for their teachers but they sometimes need our help.
In addition to your child's primary teacher, please try to remember our fantastic Special Teachers and staff who do so much to add to the student experience:
Elementary Teacher's Aide- Mrs Kinoshita, known to the children as Ms Kino.
Art- Mrs. Pickering
Music- Mr. Abbondanzio
PE and Technology- Mr. Coplan
Religious Education- Mrs. Andrus
Extended Care- Ms. Ayla (Clark) and Ms. Melissa (Saunders)
Building Maintenance- Mr. Borst
Title 1- Mrs. Guthrie and Mrs. Pierce
Food Service- Ms. Bobbi Jo (Anderberg)
Are you able to help us pull this off???
Please call or text message Inga Paluch at 917-685-3773 if you can help out in any way next week! There are lots of big and small ways you can be helpful.
Schedule of Events
Monday: Kickoff Monday- Teachers will arrive to a morning coffee break with baked goods.
- Can you provide some muffins, coffee cake or bread?
- Perhaps bottles of iced teas, lemonade, OJ, or iced coffee for those who don't drink it hot
- We also would like a few helium balloons?
- Can you arrive early to help setup the table?
Tuesday: Bring Your Teacher a Flower- Please bring in a flower or two for each of your teachers to contribute to a beautiful classroom bouquet. Parent volunteers will meet in the morning to assemble them.
- Can you help put bouquets together right after drop off, while students and staff are at morning meeting?
Wednesday: Wellness Wednesday- Please bring in a piece of fruit, drinks or other healthy treat. Teachers will receive a basket of fruits and healthy snack options in the lounge.
- Can you and your child help to create some artwork, cards, or decorations to accompany the food spread?
Thursday: Words from the Heart Day- Please bring in a handmade card for your teachers.
**** PLEASE, Don't forget about this one!****
Of all the things that the teachers receive during the year, it is the handmade cards and thoughtful notes that are most appreciated. If you need paper, art supplies, ideas etc, please stop by the office and secretly speak with Lindsay O'Neil. We want to make sure every student has a chance to say thank you in their own words and art.
Friday: Teacher/Staff Dress Down Day
Other Ways You Can Show Your Appreciation
Some other ideas include:
Gift cards for coffee, movies, Target, Amazon...and yes, Dollar Tree would be SOO appreciated!!
small gifts or a handmade token of appreciation made by you and your child
Make a donation to a special cause on behalf of your teacher
Helping stock our classrooms with much needed supplies... Often it is the teachers and staff who run out to stores to replenish supplies when their classroom is low.
Teachers are always in need of:
- glue sticks and white glue bottles
- washable markers
- crayons
- pens, pencils, sharpies (any color)
- big erasers
- whiteout
- tissues
- hand sanitizer
- post-its and notepads
- expo markers and eraser fluid
- batteries, duct tape, scotch tape, painters tape
These are just suggestions...Perhaps you have another idea you would like to do instead.
Ask your kids... they often know about a teacher's favorite store, drink, book, activity etc and can come up with a very thoughtful idea.
Please feel free to express your gratitude in a way that is meaningful and appropriate for your family.
