HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 2 - 27 July
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We come today to the end of an era, with Deb Tanham’s retirement following more than 34 years of service to the Holy Rosary community, 20 of which were in the Siena Centre. Her dedication and commitment are beyond reproach. We are in her debt. We wish her much joy and happiness for the road ahead.
Thank you Deb.

St Dominic's Day
With St Dominic’s Day next Friday we would just like to let you know that the structure of the day will remain similar to previous years as it is so popular with our children.
- Mass will be in the Church at 9am.
- Tuckshop will be open at recess, but not lunch.
There will be a Mini Fete after recess. After discussions with a number of parents, we felt as a staff that one important change would be to try and reduce the number of sugary treats that are given out as prizes. This has been discussed with the students, however, it will of course, depend on what parents are able to bring in.
- Lunch will be a sausage sizzle (at no cost).
- We will finish the day with Tabloid Sports in the afternoon.
We are looking forward to a great day. Please keep your fingers crossed that we get good weather!
First Eucharist
Commencing this year, Father Peter would like all our young people to receive their First Eucharist together at the 6pm Mass on Saturday 18th August.
If for some reason families are not able to attend the Saturday evening Mass, Father will celebrate a First Eucharist Mass the next morning at 10am.
Please let Kaye know if you cannot make the Saturday evening Mass.
ASSEMBLY TODAY
This was a wonderful assembly, led brilliantly by Ana Johnson and her Year Three Dominic Gang who entertained us in style! Thank you very much!
There was much fun had, though with a tinge of sadness for Deb’s farewell at the assembly. The Siena team have done such a great job of arranging Deb’s farewell. Thank you all!
CROSS-COUNTRY ON TUESDAY
Congratulations to our Interschool team comprised of students from Years 3-6 who competed against children from fifteen other schools at Perry Lakes on Wednesday. The weather was great as were the performances! Congratulations to all students involved. It was touching to notice a couple of 'Spirit of Jesus' moments when two of our children in different races stopped to assist children from other schools who became upset during the event. It is not all about winning and to realise this at such a young age is very special. And to staff member Julie Catherall who ran running club for several weeks beforehand, you did an amazing job. The children really valued and enjoyed this opportunity. Many thanks also to our P.E. teacher Rob Flexman who did a great job of organising our participation. Rob has also had the track marked out on the oval, so you can guess what’s next! Sport at our school has a full calendar. Thanks very much Rob.
HRC MEETING ON TUESDAY
As always this was a good meeting with much conversation about lots of matters. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to buy in and I would encourage you to come along if you haven’t done so before. They are held in term time on the fourth Tuesday of the month, 7pm in the staff room. You will be made welcome!
THIS MUST BE BLUE AND SILVER KLUGER WEEK
On Tuesday a silver Toyota Kluger was seen driving in to the staff car park in front of the library to drop off a child. Please don’t do that! A blue Kluger has been parking regularly between the ramp coming down from the school, and the one going down to the Church, forcing children riding bikes in to oncoming car park traffic to go between ramps. That’s dangerous! Please don’t do that either! Apologies to all law-abiding blue and silver Kluger drivers.
YOUTH MASS THIS SUNDAY, 5.30PM-6PM
The weekly Sunday evening mass is now a regular event for a growing number of people. The last one each month is a Youth Mass, which means that it will be on this Sunday. Father Peter is committed to finding ways of welcoming people to church at Our Lady of the Rosary, and many find that mass at this time and of that duration works for them and their children. Why not swing by?

LIBRARY NEWS
Week 6 is BOOK WEEK!! From 18th to 24th August we celebrate reading and books culminating in our Annual Book Week Parade on Friday 24th. The theme for 2018 is “Find Your Treasure” and we have been discussing in library sessions the importance of books in our lives, our favourite books and characters and how we treasure the lessons they teach us and the way these books make us feel. Students are encouraged to make their own costumes from what they have at home, and as the parade will take place in the gym this year, they are welcome to carry their book. Classes are busy working on their piece of art from their chosen focus book and parents are welcome to view the art in the library during Book Week.
The Childrens’ Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together every year across Australia to celebrate Book Week. During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature and you will often see children's book character parades and talented librarians creating amazing displays. Generally, the CBCA Book of the Year winner's announcement is the third Friday in August, and CBCA Book Week commences the following day. Please see cbca.org.au for the full list of wonderful Australian books being celebrated this year.
Cupcakes will be on sale after the Book Week Parade for a gold coin donation to raise funds for Telethon.
