No School on April 8th Due to Solar Eclipse
After discussions with Lago Vista ISD staff and city officials, Lago Vista ISD has decided to close for staff and students on Monday, April 8, 2024. This day will not be made up.
On April 8th, the residents of Lago Vista ISD will be in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse. It will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. Local officials are planning for a significant number of visitors to flock to our area in order to witness this extraordinary phenomenon. We understand that this surge in visitors may likely put a strain on local infrastructure and resources, possibly impacting school operations.
This decision stems from our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff during this rare celestial event. We understand that this adjustment may require rearranging schedules and arrangements for childcare. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Although the District will be closed on April 8th, we do want to emphasize that a solar eclipse of this nature is a unique educational experience that we hope will foster a sense of wonder and curiosity about the universe. Lago Vista ISD students will be provided with classroom instructional activities leading up to this event and will also be provided with one pair of safety glasses to bring home.
Here are a few resources to help our parents and families prepare to safely experience this once in a lifetime event.

COMPLETE YOUR LVISD VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FORM TODAY:
Dear LV Viking Booster Club Members,
I hope this message finds you well. Your dedication to supporting our students and school community through volunteering on campus and in the concession stands is truly appreciated and invaluable. To prioritize student safety, LVISD is implementing an important measure that requires all volunteers to complete the LVISD Volunteer Application/Criminal Background Check Form annually before commencing their volunteer work.
Lago Vista Independent School District (LVISD) operates under state law, specifically Texas Education CodeĀ§22.083, which mandates obtaining criminal history record information for applicants the district intends to employ and for any volunteer. This is an essential step in ensuring a safe environment for our students.
To complete the LVISD Volunteer Application/Criminal Background Check Form, please follow the link provided: LVISD Volunteer Application/Criminal Background Check Form
We kindly ask all volunteers to carefully review the guidelines in the form and fill out all required information accurately. In addition to completing this form, you must upload a copy of picture identification (drivers license, ID card). This measure is in addition to the Raptor System currently in use at all LVISD campuses, further reinforcing their commitment to student safety.
Your cooperation and prompt action in completing this form are greatly appreciated. By working together and upholding these standards, we can continue to provide a secure and nurturing environment for our students to learn and thrive.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to the LV Viking Booster Club and LVISD.
Warm regards,
Kandice Thompson
President
LV Viking Booster Club
Thank you for your continued support of VIKING NATION! We-All-Row!!
Viking Futures Fund
We have exciting news to share!
The LV Viking Booster Club has established the Viking Futures Fund. Each year we will set a Viking-Sized Goal to fundraise for a large scale project or item that will benefit Lago Vista Athletics!
For 2023-2024, our goal is to raise $65,000 for a wrapped 14-15 passenger sprinter van, which will be a tremendous addition to the Athletics Program. In memory of and to honor Whitney Vaughan-Christopher, it will be called the #RowLikeWhit van and have the graphic on the back.
LV Athletic Director/Head Football Coach, Craten Phillips said, "A passenger van would be a game-changer for the Lago Vista athletic department. So many teams would make use during tournament season when parking is tight and travel between games is necessary. Tennis, Golf, and Cross Country could take the entire team without having to order a whole bus for just 6-12 kids. Being able to transport a team without a bus or the CDL requirement would be a huge benefit for the district as less subs would be needed for coaches missing class to drive other teams."
We want to include our community and all of Viking Nation, so personal, business and/or organization sponsorships are available to help fund the #RowLikeWhit van. For anyone donating $1,000 or more, a sponsorship decal will be added to the back of the van for a 3-year period.
Click on the link below or use the QR code to make a donation to the #RowLikeWhit van.
