English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
Hello English Learner Parents! We need your help to increase services and support for our English learner students. You can help by becoming active with the Vista High School English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).
The role of the ELAC is to advise the principal and the School Site Council (SSC) on how to allocate money on programs and services for English learners. ELAC also advises the principal on the site plan for English learners included in the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
Please get involved! If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact our Community Liaison Representative, Dalia Hipolito at <daliahipolitomartin@vistausd.org> or calling 760-726-5611, ext 71047. All interested English learner parents, please provide your response by September 13th.
Our first meeting is planned for the last week in September.
Covid Update
Congratulations to those vaccinated at our first on-campus vaccination clinic on Wednesday, September 15th! This was a great event in which many students were able to get vaccinated with their parent or guardian's permission! Stay tuned for when our clinic returns on October 6th for the second doses.
This week there have been Covid-19 cases identified on our campus. These people are not at school and are currently in isolation. Unless you have been directly notified, your student is not a close contact and there is nothing else you need to do. This information is only a courtesy. If you would like to be tested, free Covid testing is available at the Vista Adult Transition Center, directly across the street from Vista High School, from 8:30 am-4:00 pm each day.
Remember, those students who are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine in case of close contact (but families are still notified). If you would like a free Covid vaccination, there will be a clinic at the Vista Innovation Center starting Monday, September 20th. The clinic is open 8:00am-3:30pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 8:00am-5:00pm Tuesday and Thursday.

VHS Covid Information
Hello Panther Families!
We have been excited to welcome our students back into the classroom this fall! With that comes the unfortunate reality that we are still living in a pandemic and Covid cases will arise. I know this information can be concerning. Please know that our staff is working tirelessly to create a safe environment for your students. Thank you for sending your student to school in a mask every day.
We have had several positive cases on campus since the beginning of the year. Those students are required to quarantine, which means they are not permitted to attend school on-campus. We also take the tracing of "close contacts" very seriously. Close contacts are those who have been within 6 feet of the positive person for fifteen minutes or more in 24 hours. These families have all been notified and their students also need to quarantine unless they are fully vaccinated.
We want to be sure you know that your students are able to continue uninterrupted in person when they are fully vaccinated. Vaccinate students who are identified as a close contact are able to continue their schooling in-person as long as they are symptom free.
Please see todays announcement from our superintendent, Dr. Doyle, titled "Get Vista Vaccinated: Vista Works for You" in English & Spanish.
Have a wonderful weekend, Panthers!

COVID CALL TO ACTION
Esteemed Parents,
We have completed eight days of school so far this year. Our health and safety procedures are working well. We are now focusing on taking every action necessary to reduce the impact of quarantine procedures on students. We need your help to commit to the following actions. Thank you for your consideration. Let’s keep kids in school.
Health and Safety Call to Action for Parents
- Action #1: Notify your school immediately if your child or any member of your household becomes ill with COVID-19.
- Action #2: Keep your child home from school if they have ANY of the symptoms listed on the decision tree guidelines (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea).
- Action #3: Keep your child home from school if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. They should NOT return to in-person learning until given a return date by our nursing staff. This includes exposure to someone living in the home who is positive.
- Action #4: Do not send your child back to school if the child or anyone in the household is awaiting a COVID-19 test result. Only send your child back if they have a negative test result or if they have completed the entire quarantine period.
- Action #5: Have your child vaccinated if they are 12 to 17 years old. Remember, your child will not need to be quarantined if they come in close contact at school if they are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. The vaccination will keep them in school and able to participate in all of the extracurricular activities like athletics, band, dance, ASB, etc.
If we can proactively respond to these five calls to action, then we can dramatically reduce the impact of quarantine on all students.
Sincerely,
Matt Doyle, Ed.D.

Remind - New Communication Application!
Vista Unified School District is committed to engaging families as partners in education. We continue to refine our communication systems to provide up to date information about teaching and learning, collaboration, family engagement, and college and career pathways. One important improvement of our plan is to implement a more efficient and seamless communication platform called Remind. The information below provides a preview of this important new feature of our communication plan.
We are excited to share that Vista Unified School District is rolling out Remind district-wide! If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages on any device—even a simple text message from your phone!
As part of this rollout, official accounts will be created for all the educators, parents, and students. You will receive an email or text message from Remind. All you need to do is follow the steps in the message to finish setting up your account. Here is a video demo to see how Remind works.
We're excited to make connecting with our families more engaging!

School Accountability Reports (SARC)
State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.
The SARC contains all of the following:
- Demographic data
- School safety and climate for learning information
- Academic data
- School completion rates
- Class sizes
- Teacher and staff information
- Curriculum and instruction descriptions
- Postsecondary preparation information
- Fiscal and expenditure data

The Importance of Community Engagement:
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families. We support in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In many cases, our schools are their primary source of support, so we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning for both our students and their families.
Parent Volunteers:
Are you looking for ways to be involved in service for our students and community?

We need a special driver to collect food donations once a month and deliver these goodies to VHS for students and families in need.
