Ludwig Ledger
February 2023
Dear Ludwig Families,
January was a busy month at Ludwig School! Coming out of winter break, students hit the ground running with winter FastBridge benchmarking, ACCESS testing for our English Language Learners, and the math Interim Assessment for select 4th and 5th grade classrooms. As always, the academic data that we collect continues to guide and inform our planning, instruction, and levels of support provided to each individual student at Ludwig School.
In addition to getting back into the swing of things with academics, our first PFA event of the year, “ Penny Wars”, was a great success. Ludwig school raised over $1600.00 for our Parent Faculty Association. A special shout out to Ms. Whiteford’s class ($494.49) and Mrs. Perusich’s class ($174.68) for being the top fundraising classes at their respective grade levels!
Second trimester ends two weeks from today, on Friday, February 17th. Encourage your child to make a strong final push to solidify top-notch academic grades, before the trimester comes to an end. Report cards will be available on Friday, February 24th, along with FastBridge family reports from winter benchmarking.
Take a moment to look through the photos below, which highlight only a fraction of the other events that have recently taken place at Ludwig school. The upcoming calendar is jam packed with new events on the horizon, which are noted below...
Kids Heart Challenge:
On Monday, February 6th, after our Monday Morning Meeting, representatives from the American Heart Association will be at Ludwig School to introduce and kickoff this year’s “Kid’s Heart Challenge” event (formerly Jump Rope for Heart). With this partnership, students will learn about heart health, and they’ll have the opportunity to raise funds to protect all hearts – especially other kids’! Through fun activities, students will discover ways to take care of their hearts and brains while practicing kindness and gratitude. Be on the lookout for more information to come home about our Challenge next week!
Ludwig School’s Annual Food Drive:
Each year, Ludwig School helps stock the shelves at our local food pantries. This year’s food drive runs from Monday, February 6th through Friday, February 10th. Our goal is for each homeroom to donate 100 items during the course of our food drive. Suggested donation items include: canned foods, boxed foods, toilet paper, laundry detergent, sugar free foods, low sodium foods, hand soap, and dish soap. Please do not send in baby foods or medicine. As always, thank you for all of your support and donations, and please know that there is no obligation to participate.
Conversation with the Superintendent:
On Tuesday, February 7th, at Ludwig School from 6:30 - 8:00pm, all D92 parents and guardians are invited to a “Conversation with the Superintendent”. The purpose of this event is to share information about standards-based learning and grading, gather parent input on sexual health standards, and provide time for an open Q&A with the Superintendent.
Lincoln Way Special Recreation Association - P.E. Takeover
Ludwig School students have the opportunity to be included in the Lincoln Way Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) P.E. Takeover Day during their P.E. class on February 10th. LWSRA’s mission is to provide recreation and leisure services for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities while promoting greater disability awareness in the community. During our P.E. Takeover event, students will be able to participate in wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball, goal ball, and they’ll have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with members of the LWSRA. Permission slips are required for students to participate, and these were sent home last week. In addition, please see the graphic below for information about a D92 / LWSRA wheelchair basketball game fundraiser in support of the LWSRA.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation:
Every year, Ludwig School hosts fun events in the month of March to fundraise for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Please click here to order your St. Baldrick's t-shirt. Students and staff are encouraged to wear these t-shirts at our events throughout the month of March. The deadline to order a t-shirt is Tuesday, February 21, 2023, to ensure they are delivered before our first event. T-shirts will be delivered directly to Ludwig School and will be distributed once they arrive in early to mid-March. Look for more information to come home about our social/open gym and our 5th grade podcastathon. We thank you in advance for your support in our annual fundraising event to help the St. Baldrick's Foundation conquering kids' cancer!
Doodle for Google:
Doodle for Google is here! Doodle for Google is an annual art contest where students in grades K-12 are invited to express their creativity through creating a doodle in response to a prompt. This year's prompt is: “I am grateful for…”, and the contest is open for entries until March 7, 2023. Please visit https://doodles.google.com/d4g/how-it-works/ to learn more. If you have any further questions, please contact Ms. Jarosz at bjarosz@d92.org. Happy doodling!

5-Essentials Parent Survey:
The 5-Essentials parent survey is administered online by Chicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. This survey generates valuable data that our district can use to guide our ongoing efforts to improve our schools and to offer students a world class education. This survey is another improvement tool that will allow us to inform parents and community members about our learning environment at Ludwig School. As a parent, please consider completing this year’s SURVEY. In order for us to get results, we need at least 20% of our families to complete the survey. This year’s survey closes on March 31, 2023. Thank you for your help and support!
