an Update from Dr. Barbara A. Russell 11/3/21
Greetings PV Families
Welcome to November and the first frost of the season!
The month kicked off with the General Election yesterday. I wish to extend congratulations to all of the successful candidates on their new term of office. Your service to our communities is appreciated.
In addition to the election, November brings the end of the first marking period for our secondary level students (Nov. 9) and the opportunity for parent teacher conferences, Nov. 22 and 23 (see details below). I encourage you to engage with your child's teacher(s) and partner with us in their education. We are always interested in learning what is going well and what can be improved upon when it comes to the experiences of our students.
November is also National Native American Heritage Month. In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under various names (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”) have been issued each year since 1994. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. National Native American Heritage Month represents an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
Lastly, this weekend, we "fall back" as the clocks are turned back 1 hour Sunday morning. Enjoy the additional hour!
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara A. Russell
Superintendent

Parent~Teacher Conferences - Schedule via ParentVUE

CogAT - Cognitive Ability Tests for Third Graders
In the coming weeks, 3rd grade students will participate in the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The CogAT is an assessment of cognitive abilities that includes verbal reasoning, sequences, analogies, and quantitative reasoning. The results will help plan effective programs for your child, as well as serve as a screening tool for further testing to determine eligibility for special programs. Parents of third grade students can access more information here.
School Climate Survey - Reminder!
PV is administering School Climate Surveys to students in grades 5-12 as well as to all parents and staff, K-12. The results will prompt us to consider current practices, goals, policies, procedures, operations, etc. and also serve to drive our comprehensive planning process. We truly appreciate your time in completing the survey by Friday, November 12th. Links were sent to all families last week via email.
Students in grades 5-12 will be given time to complete the survey during school hours.
Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.
