Happy Day of Making! Today the White House will hold its first-ever Maker Faire and the nation will join together to celebrate a Day of Making. During the White House Maker Faire, select makers will show off their projects and talk with the President about making and its impact on their lives.
There's also a long history of "making" right here in the Upper Valley, and the movement is building momentum. The Upper Valley MakerSpace is a proud sponsor of the SolarFest Mini Maker Faire® and we will be there along with some of our community members showing off some fantastic creations. The Mudroom at AVA is a community storytelling event modeled after NPR’s The Moth Radio Hour. Designed as a social gathering for adults in the Upper Valley, this program offers an opportunity to meet new people, connect with friends, and to hear amazing real-life stories that might otherwise go unshared. The next Mudroom will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 7pm. The Theme Is Boundaries. Storytelling will begin at 7pm, food will be available for purchase at 6:30pm. Beer and soft drinks will be by donation. The program will conclude before 9pm.
SolarFest, now in its 20th year is the longest running solar powered music festival and sustainability conference in the Northeast. A three-day, family-friendly festival that combines world-class entertainment with not-to-be-missed workshops in renewable energy, sustainability and community engagement.
All three days will be jammed packed with beginner and advanced workshops, displays of new and innovative technologies, and opportunities to sit and talk at length with experts in the field. But that’s not all, there’s also a full blown music festival, SolarFest Mini Maker Faire®, theater, and family performances, all powered by and showcasing renewable energy. The SolarFest sustainable marketplace will feature vendors and equipment manufacturers demonstrating the latest in renewable energy technologies, as well as food, craft and sustainable products. Browse through and you will find folks sharing ideas and testing out the latest products. You’ll even have an opportunity to test ride an electric bicycle!
