Science
Students have focused a great deal of time and energy by completing a Planet Lab this week. Students had to create the 8 planets by using the scale of 1inch = 10,000 miles and then place those on a 25 foot long chart paper according to the scaled down distance from the sun. 1inch = 10,000,000 miles. This was a challenging task for some, but was worthy to show the actual scale factor of the planets and distance from the sun. Measurement, scale factors, and ratio tables were practiced a great deal!
Students also have been completing a moon calendar each day to start class.
AdvMath 6th Grade (Block A)
Students have been studying geometry vocabulary in-class this week through whole group instruction. Students have been examples of various shapes, angles, and lines when discussing characteristics of each. We've been doing a little bit of this each day.
We also have focused a great deal on word problems to start gearing up for ISTEP. We always do word problems to start class each day, but the complexity of each question is becoming more tedious.
100 minutes of VMath is due Sunday night @ midnight. This will be entered into the gradebook as a FORMATIVE grade (10% of one's overall grade).
