Arrivals and Dismissals
Arrival
Arrival at the beginning of the school day is a very busy time. In order to make this a smooth transition for our students, parents and staff, we ask that you please give your hugs and waves outside, and allow your child to enter the school on their own. With the busyness to the start of the school day, and to ensure the safety and transition into the school day for our students and staff, as well as to establish independence with our students, we appreciate you following this procedure.
If you do need to enter the building in the morning to talk to a staff member, please come to the Main Office every time to sign in and to get a visitor badge. This is also a safety measure for our students and staff. When wearing a badge, it informs our staff that you have checked in with the Main Office. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our school safe for our students and staff members.
Dismissal
Dismissal at the end of the school day is a very busy time. Each classroom teacher is responsible for approximately 20 students. This is a serious responsibility, and teachers have safety topmost in their minds. Each child in their classroom has a dismissal plan. Our teachers are focused on getting everyone home safely. It is imperative that teachers and parents follow this plan. You can help by:
Meet your child at the designated pick up area, on the sidewalk next to the parent loop (the entrance off Ocean Ave).
Please do not take your child without the teacher making eye contact with you first.
- If after school plans change, you will need to send a note to school with your child or call the office directly. If we do not have a note, or verbal confirmation from a parent, we will insist your child follow the daily routine.
- For a last minute dismissal plan change, you must contact the office prior to 2 PM. We have just under 400 students in 19 different classes. We get messages to teachers with proper notice.
All early dismissals must go through the Main Office. It is required that you sign out your child. The secretary will notify the teacher to dismiss your child. You may not go directly to the classrooms to dismiss your child. This is designed as a protection for all children, and to limit classroom disruptions.
If you need to dismiss your child during the school day and he/she is on the playground, do not take your child from the playground. You must report to the office first and we will bring your child to you.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Pets on School Grounds
We understand that pets are important members of our families. We also acknowledge the benefits of walking to and from school in a family group with a dog. If you would like to still walk to school together with your dog, please consider walking with your pet to the school entrance off of either Walton Street or Ocean Avenue, and then allowing your student to continue the remainder of the walk to the school entrance on their own.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and for your help in keeping our students and staff safe!
Birthdays at School
**PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS MAY ONLY HAND OUT BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS AT SCHOOL, IF ALL STUDENTS IN THE CLASS ARE BEING INVITED TO THE STUDENT'S PERSONAL CELEBRATION.
