Science with Ms Baker
Congratulations to Vlad D, Alex G, and Noah R-R for winning our first engineering competition! Their device was the most cost effective for clearing our blocked "arteries."
Math 7 and 8 with Ms Lashley
This week in Math 7, we have worked on multiple algebraic representations for proportional relationships. Students are calculating unit rates and using those rates to write equations and build tables of values. Next week in Math 7, we will do an IB formative that applies these rates in the real world as we explore the number of grocery stores and convenience stores in different neighborhoods. At home, try questions like “If 3 apples cost $$4.50, how much would 5 apples cost?” keeping the numbers simple enough to do mentally.
These Khan Academy Assignments will be uploaded on September 27 and are due on October 4:
- Constant of Proportionality from Equations
- Constant of Proportionality from Tables
- Interpret Constant of Proportionality
This week in Math 8, we did our official “how tos” on performing reflections and rotations on the coordinate plane, then we started to work on sequencing transformations. Next week in Math 8, we will continue our work with sequencing transformations, with a focus on whether or not the order of transformations matters. At home, the transformations are not very authentic, unless you’re at an art museum and looking at tiles. Students are asking me lots of questions about rate problems on their written homework, so try to work those in: If 12 students can decorate a sidewalk in 2 hours, how long would it take 18 students to decorate the same sidewalk?
These Khan Academy Assignments will be uploaded on September 27 and are due on October 4:
- Rotate Points
- Determine Rotations
- Mapping Shapes
English with Mr Bond
Hello Constantinople Families,
Celebrations
- Marc Hackel (Inquirers)-- showing independence in learning by being proactive during class discussion and leading the class in a discussion characterization
- Ian Rosenburg (Thinkers)-- exercising initiative in applying thinking skills that help stimulate class discussion
- Chloe Black (Knowledgeable)-- during a class discussion, providing evidence that supported abstract thinking and connections to ideas that were not explicitly stated.
- Rahul Sharma (Principled)-- acting with integrity by consistently displaying appropriate and successful learning behaviors.
- Elizabeth Perlmutter (Communicators)-- expressing ideas and information confidently and creatively in a variety of ways
Last Week
Scholars began learning about characterization and perspective, using the anchor text titled Seedfolks. A writing diagnostic was administered in order to gather data on scholars’ abilities to clearly articulate thoughts through written expression. This diagnostic is aligned with our schoolwide Writing Revolution initiative.
Also, scholars completed Reading Inventory, the districtwide online assessment.
This Week
Scholars are continuing their work with characterization and perspective. Our learning and activities are guided by the following curriculum standard and objective(s):
- Standard RL 7.1—Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis
- Lesson Objective—Scholars Will Be Able To use textual evidence to do the following:
- Support their analysis of the text
- Justify their perspective about the Seedfolks neighborhood
As always, I look forward to seeing our scholars shine!
Sincerely,
Mr. Bond
History with Mr McShane
This week in Individuals and Societies the scholars took the SAGE Pretest as a diagnostic to our ancient history course. The scholars play a simulation game where they were put into groups of four and each given a job with the goal to see if their village could survive the hardships that early humans had to deal with as they began to create villages. The scholars then read, annotated, and completed a graphic organizer in preparation for their formative where the scholars wrote a paragraph where they will decide if an agriculture society or hunting and gathering society is better for humans. Next week in Individuals and Societies the scholars examine some stone age sites and analyze cave art as we conclude our unit on Hominids and have a summative test next Friday.
Current Assignment:
- What does it mean to be Human? (Due Friday September 24,2021 - Found in the Hominids module on canvas
- Hominid Terminology Writing (Due Tuesday September 30, 2021- Found in the Hominids module on canvas
Past Assignments:
