Preschool Vision Screening Notification for Parents
All health screenings conducted in schools are required by Massachusetts Law. As of this current 2022-2023 school year, annual vision screenings are required for preschoolers starting at age 3 years old. Preschool vision screenings will begin in early December and will be ongoing throughout the school year.
A referral to parents will be sent home by the nurse if a follow up appointment is needed with their physician.
Parents and legal guardians have the opportunity to request, in writing, that their child not participate in the screenings. The request must be sent each school year. Please send this letter via email or hard copy to the attention of the Mlagan@natickps.org.
Important Things to Know!
SPARK Kindness is hosting our annual Kindness Week from November 12-18. Kindness Week is a time to shine the spotlight on the good that happens every day and to inspire people to show, find and receive kindness.
We hope to promote kindness by celebrating the young SPARKlers in our community. Attached, please find two kindness activities that we would love for you to share with your school community! The Kindness Connects Us Coloring Page asks children to think of a time they showed, saw or received kindness!
The Kindness Detective Activity encourages children to look for kindness all around them. They can draw and/or write in their own magnifying glass! Can you be a kindness detective?
This kindness artwork/activity can be displayed at home, in a learning space, or at one of the community partner display sites at Roche Brothers or Sweetwaters! In addition, pictures of the artwork/activity can be emailed to Kindnessweek@SPARKKindness.org to be included in a Kindness Week slideshow.
Check out the What, Why and How of Child Led Play
Play is how children learn about their environment and about the world. When you follow your child's lead in play, you can take advantage of things that interest your child to help them learn something new through play in an unpressured way. Also, when your child leads, they build communication skills and learn how to influence things around them. Click for more on Child Led Play

How do I hold my child accountable?
- What is Co-regulation?
*structure the home environment to include a chill zone,
*establish consistent routines and point out when the routine will vary,
*verbalize clear expectations and repeat them frequently,
*remain as calm as possible when stating consequences so that children develop the sense that problem solving is a part of life; we solve problems and move on
- Reminder for Parents Who Want to Volunteer--CORI Checks
Reminder If you want to volunteer in schools, you must have a CORI check conducted and you must go into the building with identification (drivers license or passport) to do this. Click here for description of what a CORI check is and does. Without a CORI check, you cannot volunteer in the school. Here is the form to fill out for a CORI. Preschool volunteer opportunities include being a Mystery Reader for the class, presenting a family tradition and supporting special projects.
