Principal's Letter for February 2023
Principal’s Message
The New Year is here and it is good to remember that we continue to focus on continued academic achievement. Our middle school had over 95% of students reach one of three levels of Honor Roll for the first trimester. Our first through fifth grades continue with their successful implementation of WIN Time. TK and kindergarten are learning the basics of language and growing daily in their academic ability and stamina. It is wonderful to see the learning taking place at SRTMS.
SRTMS is always looking to innovate and bring new students to campus. We are very excited to collaborate with CodeCampus to bring a Computer Science Immersion program to our students. The teachers are ready to embrace our new direction and the students cannot wait to get started. The computer science immersion program will add to our already stellar technology program and hopefully bring many new students to SRTMS. We would like to thank Beth Harris for her assistance, leadership, and guidance as our staff came to a consensus and agreed to the new program. Lastly, we held an SRTMS information night for prospective families on Wednesday, January 25. We are doing everything possible to increase enrollment.
Our new play structure opened this month, and it is a resounding success. All students enjoy climbing, playing, sliding, and riding on the new equipment. It took some time to finalize things, but it was worth the wait. We thank Sandra Lovaas and the facilities and maintenance team for their assistance throughout the construction process.
The CAASPP Dashboard went public recently. We are proud of our very positive indicators in math, ELA, and suspension rate. We will continue to utilize and improve upon our strategies to perform even better next year. Our indicator for chronic absenteeism needs to improve. With the return to a more traditional school year, with less COVID interruption, and our positive attendance incentive programs, we look to reduce our chronic absenteeism.
Lastly, we will begin our lunchtime basketball tournament for fourth through eighth grade in the next week. The winning teams will receive shirts and medals. It is a great way to keep our students engaged in school.
Eagle Pride,
Mr. Borchard
