The Eagle Express
Antrim Elementary School October 7, 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Thank you to those who could join us for the community meeting today. It was great having Mrs. Beaumont's class presentation about their author visit. Another highlight was the lost and found fashion show. This was a fun way to end the week.
Coming up next week, we will be sending home AES shirts to new students and we will have a fun day on Friday learning all about fire safety with the Antrim Fire Department. If you can, please join us Tuesday afternoon for a PTO meeting. We would love to have you!
Please save the date for October 27th from 5-6:30 where we will have a fun spooky-themed literacy night planned. More details forthcoming!
Don't forget, no school for students on Monday as it is a staff professional development day. We will see you on Tuesday October 11th.
Have a great weekend! I hope you all get to do something fun!

Important News from Mrs. Storro
Dear Antrim Eagle Families,
I am writing to share some news. In these next few weeks of October there will be a change in the Muzart position at AES. My husband and I have made a big life decision to sell our home in Peterborough and move to Maine. I never imagined myself leaving my teaching position after the start of the school year like this; however, things seem to be falling into place leading us to this decision and at this time. My last day at AES will be October 28th. This gives me an opportunity to see all of our young artists and musicians before that day.
It is important for me to express the joy I have experienced in teaching students about art and music for the past eight years here at AES. My own children, who are now grown, attended AES - this school and community hold a special place in my heart. I am grateful for the contributions each of our students, here now and from years past, have made in my experience as an educator. My take away as I prepare for this next chapter in my life is that we are all life-long learners. I have learned from my students as much as they have learned from me - to look at the world through the lens of kindness, to be a creative thinker, to always make room for play, to give forgiveness to oneself and others, that it feels great sometimes to just laugh together, to appreciate and value one another, to make a “beautiful oops” out of our mistakes, to understand that failure is part of growing and learning and to make every moment count..
To quote the artist Anna Mary Robertson, “Life is what you make of it, always has been, always will be.”Together we can make this transition an exciting time for our AES eagles as they welcome a new Muzart Teacher to the Antrim Elementary School community. As I have learned as a Military Mom, instead of saying goodbye, I will leave you with a “see you later.”
Keep Smiling,
Carole StorroCommunity Meeting Today ~ Thanks for joining us
A Note from Nurse Mellon
We are very fortunate at AES to have had the Lion’s Club visit and complete their annual free vision screening. The screening consists of an instant scan of the child’s eye to determine the possible presence of eye disorders. The child simply looks at the blinking light in the camera for a few seconds and the summary of results are printed.
AES’s participation rate was great!

As the Director of Learning Recovery, I want to be sure that our programming is designed to support all students. With that, I would like your feedback regarding the Summer Programming offered this past summer.
While I have heard from many of the families whose children attended Explore and Expand and Summer Academy this past summer, I would like feedback from families of students who did not attend. Your feedback will help us to make adjustments and increase access to our summer programs.
Using this link, please complete this 4 question survey. If you have multiple students at different levels, please complete the survey for each level.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Mr. Stulz' Library Learning Commons News
Covering for Mrs. Beaumont's class was amazing and helped satisfy an itch I had to be back in the classroom. However, getting a chance to work with all of the AES students is hard to pass up.
Over the summer, I learned trying to explain my position in this school was a challenging task. When someone would ask what I do for a living, I'd say I'm a teacher. Then the next question is always, "What do you teach?" I've always struggled with that question. Library at AES is much more than reading stories and checking out library books. A library is a place of self-discovery. A place to learn to be an expert learner. Expert learning is knowing how you learn the best. Because of this, our first rich vocabulary word in library was ambiguity.
Some of the interesting things we are doing in the library/learning commons....
3rd and 4th graders are using jamboards. A jamboard is a digital chart board for pasting sticky notes. Mrs. Beaumont's class used this to summarize a book and come up with ideas for presenting at our community meeting, They used their personal Chromebook and add to the class jam board asynchronously.
There are a lot of enriching projects in the works. Stay tuned to hear more in the coming weeks.
Please Come to our next PTO meeting
