Premise ID Requirements
- The requirement for a Premises ID may not apply at this time to those solely exhibiting breeding animals, unless a producer’s EID tag is in the animal’s ear.
- A previously obtained Premises ID for the family ranch location where livestock are kept can be used for this purpose.
- Many swine exhibitors may have a Premises ID through completion of the Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) program. If so, there is no need to obtain another Premises ID for that location through the Dept. of Ag.
- The obtained Premises ID can apply to more than one youth if there are multiple exhibitors housing livestock at the same location. These youth may be family, or unrelated exhibitors that house their livestock at the same location. Write down and keep track of Premises ID numbers.
- The Premises ID number will need to be reported to your County Extension Office and/or FFA Advisor promptly
- All 4-H and FFA MARKET animals carrying an EID tag are required to have a Premises ID. (This includes any that may show at only the county level as well)
- A Premises ID number can be obtained through the Nebraska Department of Agriculture
- Only one (1) Premises ID is necessary for a family with multiple exhibitors (provided livestock are housed at the same location)
- Only one (1) Premises ID is necessary for an exhibitor that shows multiple species (provided livestock are housed at the same location)
- Any exhibitor who has completed PQA (Pork Quality Assurance) should have a Premises ID. They can call the Nebraska Department of Ag to verify if they believe they have one.
- The Premises ID number should correlate to the location in which livestock are kept/housed permanently
- Since breeding animals do not carry EID tags, this is not a requirement for those exhibitors at this time
- In order to show at the Nebraska State Fair, a Premises ID must be on file for a market animal exhibitor

Transition from LQA to YQCA
We are excited to announce that Nebraska is part of a national team introducing a new QA Curriculum called Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). The YQCA course will be available online 24X7 and we anticipate that the new course will be available on or about March 1st. For additional information on the YQCA program you can go to the Animal Care Wednesday Zoom session at: http://animalscience.unl.edu/Extension/AnimalCareRes/PPT2016/2016.Dec.07-ACWW-Kuber-YQCA.mp4
- From now through March 1, you can continue to use the current LQA online course. As in the past, youth completing the LQA online course will need to complete three new modules with an 80% or better. Youth must print and deliver module certificates to their local Extension office. The cost of the LQA course will remain at $5.00 as in the past.
- Note: For youth already in progress toward attaining the 2017 LQA module prior to March 1, youth will be able to continue their work and complete the required three modules.
- At the point when the new YQCA course comes online (March 1), the old LQA course will not accept new 2017 participants. Instead, youth will enroll in the new YQCA. The cost of the new YQCA course will be $12.00 for the online course and will be accessed through 4-H online. For counties that have a sponsor for the cost of the online training a code can be purchased and used by 4-Hers that do the online training.
A complete list of training sessions can then be found at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wJzA8R2F9OrB87ksWd91EUhy3onkmvi7zj0cNiEs3Qo/edit?usp=sharing

4-H Enrollment - DEADLINE = APril 1st!!
- 4-H Enrollment for 2017 is open! It can be done via computer at ne.4honline.com. There are information guides for enrolling new members, as well as re-enrolling and can be found on our website: http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/saunders/basic/.
- There is a $10 per 4-H member fee for those 8 (prior to January 1) and older. Clover Kids have a $5 enrollment fee (that are 5, 6, 7 prior to January 1). All enrollment fees will need to be paid online in the 4-H Online system.
- However, since the program cannot specify different enrollment fees for different aged youth, you will be charged $10 regardless of age. If your Clover Kid attends one of the Clover Crew sessions or the Clover Kid Day Camp, we will adjust the payment. For example, you would not have to pay for one of the Clover Kid sessions or the Day Camp would be $5 cheaper.
- If we do not receive your forms and fees, you will not be enrolled in 4-H for 2017 and will not be able to participate in the Saunders County Fair.
Friends of Saunders County 4-H and Extension Foundation Silent Auction Fundraiser
- Rain Barrel Silent Auction Fundraiser
- Each Club can make one to donate to the Silent Auction at the Fair!
- Rain barrel is any above ground container modified to receive, store, and distribute rooftop runoff for non-drinking uses
- Clubs can construct (or purchase premade barrels) to prime and paint them as well
What are the benefits of rain barrels?
- Rain water is naturally soft, oxygenated, and more acidic than tap water.
- Rain water is free of chlorine, fluoride, salts, and other minerals from tap water.
- Saves water for dry spells.
- Reduces runoff and stormwater pollution.
- Can reduce your water bill, especially in the summer.
- Darker colored barrels are better suited, because algae can grow given sunlight. The barrels also need to be food grade or have never held harmful chemicals. The finished barrel can be painted using spray paint for plastics such as Krylon or Rust-Oleum.

Volunteer Re-Screening
As many of you know, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension 4-H Volunteer application process includes a volunteer screening. All volunteers and staff who work directly with youth are required to complete the Youth Volunteer Protection Screening Form. Be assured the volunteer screening process is confidential.
Volunteer applicants are screened in order to:
- assure a safe, positive and nurturing environment for all youth involved with the Nebraska 4-H Youth Development program.
- provide protection for the child, the volunteer, the educator, the 4-H Council, the Extension Board, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension.
Screening Rotation
Initial screening of volunteers and staff will occur when they sign up to volunteer or are employed as an Extension professional. Screening for all volunteers will be done every four years by district, regardless of when the original screening was completed.
Saunders County Volunteers are up for re-screening this year, so every volunteer must fill out the Youth Volunteer Protection Screening Form! This form can be found here:
In order to be approved as a 4-H Volunteer, you must be re-screened!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
