LP Brown Newsletter

February Edition

February is Black History Month

As we enter February, we will begin with our school board's proclamation of Black Lives Matter at school, week of action. This will include age appropriate discussions in the classroom around the principles of empathy, loving engagement, and restorative justice. Students will continue their work throughout the month, focusing our learning around the important impact our African American citizens have made in this country.

Valentine's Day at L.P. Brown

We are excited to bring back our Friendship Feast breakfast for Valentine's Day! All students will get to enjoy a breakfast together of waffles, fruit, and other yummy choices. All food will be provided for the students. Please watch for volunteer opportunities from your child's teacher.

Sharing cards with friends is absolutely fine for Valentine's Day, but not required. Please limit treats as much as possible, as our breakfast will be quite an amazing treat!

Report Cards Semester 1

Report cards will come home with students on Wednesday, February 22nd. We are printing all report cards this semester to ensure that ALL families have an opportunity to view student progress. Report cards will also be available in Skyward Family access beginning February 22nd. After viewing your child's report card, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. This Semester 1 report card will help us set goals for the second half of the school year.

Kids are going GaGa!!

Have you heard? We have a new GaGa Ball Pit! Thanks to our amazing PTO for donating supplies, our students have learned a new game, and it is a recess favorite. If you haven't yet, ask your student about their experience in the Pit. Kids are learning so many great life skills playing this game together. Thank you, PTO!

Day of Service

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., our Marshall Middle School students spent a day serving us at Brown. They worked in our garden, helped with organizing materials for our new GaGa Ball Pit, and had fun interacting with out great students. Thank you, Marshall Middle School for your support of LP Brown!

Jr. Coaches at LP Brown

4th and 5th grade students will be given the opportunity to be a Jr. Coach during one school day each week. These coaches act as mentors to our younger students and to their peers. The application deadline for our first session of Jr. Coaches is Feb. 2. If your student doesn't get a chance during our first session, there will be another chance.

Olympia Junior Programs

We are so grateful to our PTO for sponsoring our students to attend Jr. Programs again! This is a fabulous opportunity for our students to experience a live stage show. These programs take place downtown at the Washington Center for Performing Arts. There will be a need for a few volunteers that will meet their child's class at the performance to help usher. Please watch for those forms coming home in the Monday folder.
