Tips for Preventing Mask Anxiety - Do we keep or change?
1. Every time you have to wear a mask, do some breathing exercises. Before you put your mask on, take five quality breaths. In through your nose for 4 counts, out through your mouth for 6 counts, hold for 2 counts. Then repeat this breathing exercise again when you put the mask on, and any time you start to feel anxious.
2. While wearing your mask, try to breathe longer, slower breaths. Try to avoid quick short breaths.
3. Keep your body as cool as possible. Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing. Stay in the shade when outside on sunny days.
4. Choose a mask that is appealing to you, but also comfortable. You can sew your own, or just choose masks with colors you like. Masks that are fun to wear are harder to hate.
5. Keep masks clean and smelling fresh. If you use reusable masks, wash your masks after each use. Many of us on campus bring two masks so that we can switch them up mid day. Coffee breath is not a fun thing to inhale in your masks.
