In recognition of Black History Month (February 1st – March 1st), Tuscan School 4th Graders from Mrs. Smith/Mrs. Silvestri’s, Mrs. Rodriquez/Mrs. Smith’s homerooms created amazing morning announcement video messages, that were shared school-wide, to shine a spotlight notable past and present African American history makers.
We always hope that through numerous real life stories of perseverance, resilience and strength in the midst of struggle, our students can feel inspired and encouraged to face these challenging times with fortitude and determination while optimistically looking forward to a brighter and better future.
This month, our 4th Grade student announcers will shine the Tuscan spotlight on Women’s History and Music in Our Schools which are recognized during the month of March.
As we continue to navigate in this environment of uncertainty, please know that we are always deeply thankful for your understanding, efforts and patience. Although there are numerous challenges and limitations, we are continuously seeking ways to support Tuscan’s children, teachers and families in every way that is possible, please do continue to reach out to us via email at ROARforTuscan@somsd.k12.nj.us.
Be well, stay safe and have a wonderful Read Across America Week!

MESSAGE FROM SCHOOL NURSES: PROCEDURE FOR CONTACT TRACING IN THE SCHOOL SETTING
The SOMSD school nurses developed a chart to summarize the response to COVID+ activity in the school community and to provide clarification on school notification procedures.
When a SOMSD staff member or student tests positive for COVID-19, it is the responsibility of that staff member or the parent of the student to notify the principal who notifies the superintendent. The respective local Department of Health (DOH) – South Orange or Maplewood - will be notified immediately. The local DOH, who receives the actual lab report, conducts Contact Tracing. Based on the circumstances of each case, the local DOH provides the District with guidance as to the appropriate and timely notification of staff and families of a confirmed case while maintaining confidentiality.
