West Shore Newsletter
April 2019
Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
Kudos and congratulations to Mrs. Solgat and our K-2 students for their wonderful performances during this year's Spring Fling. It took a lot of learning and practice to make the event a big success!
Some other fun events happening at WSE included our Bikes for Books and March is Reading Month assemblies. We wrapped up March Is Reading Month with a school wide Bikes For Books assembly sponsored by Linden Masonic Lodge #132. Lots of prizes went out to our top readers. The students also reached our goal of reading 10,000 books, so I had to kiss a goat!
Lastly, don't forget it's time to enroll for Kindergarten! This year's enrollment process is online. If you have not completed your upcoming kindergartner's enrollment, please do so ASAP.
Yours in Learning,
Sonya Shaughnessy

Dimes for Diapers
Diapers are such a basic need for anyone raising a child unfortunately they are expensive. The Dimes for Diapers Drive provided some powerful information: “One in four children in Genesee County lives in poverty. Buying diapers is often a struggle for those families. But with a little help from the community, ABC12 and ELGA Credit Union, we're helping change babies and lives. Each dollar donated to the Flint Diaper Bank will turn into eight diapers. The non-profit can purchase them below cost, and put them in the hands of families in need.”
West Shore will be collecting all denominations of money (not just dimes) from April 8th through April 26th. Money can be sent in to our classroom. The class who collects the most money for this great cause can win a pizza party too!

Parent Pick-Up
Just a reminder, due to safety concerns during after school pick up times, West Shore has a "NO LOBBY" pick -up policy.
In the past, when lobby pick-up was an option, it became very difficult to keep track of and monitor students and the adults picking up the students. We have several safety factors to consider including custody issues and "safe adults" who are on emergency contact lists.
From time to time there are extenuating circumstances. In those instances, Mrs. Shaughnessy will consider and/or approve alternate end of the day options.
During pick up lane, please make sure that your pick up sign is visibly hanging from your visor in the passenger side window. Thanks again for your patience and support! It’s been a great team effort to make this work for our student’s safety.
