Welcome Back, Hornet Family!

We are so excited to have our families back in action this week! We want to make sure you are aware of some updates to our website. This year, we are focusing more on modeling and recognizing positive behaviors of our students. On our Gold Hill website, you will find an updated Student Code of Conduct, as well as our STING matrix. These are some resources that all of our Gold Hill staff will be using this year to help support our students. You will also find our updated student handbook, in addition to teacher webpages.

Morning Arrival Reminders

This is just a reminder that students are to remain in their vehicles until we open the doors. We want to ensure student safety, and morning supervision does not start until 7:05. Thank you so much parents for getting students to school on time this week. Keep it up! It is critical that all students are in their classrooms by 7:35. Students who arrive after 7:35 are tardy, and will need to be signed in at the office.

Uke Can Do It

Greetings parents and students,

I’m very excited about the new school year and the opportunities for my students this year. Since my arrival at GHES, I have been working hard to build the music program up to make it the best. This year I am hosting an online fundraiser through the organization Donors Choose. This company is a non-profit company that helps educators raise funding for their instructional purposes. I have an account with them and have submitted a new project titled
Uke Can Do It. The items I have requested are the second half of a fundraiser/grant that I received last year. This fundraiser will help put a ukulele in every child’s hand during music classes. This will help the music program greatly and increase the numbers of students that are able to participate at once during instruction. There are further explanations of the items and my intentions for the use of these instruments on the website.

What I am proposing is that every parent with a child or two, or three, at Gold Hill go to the website:

https://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/1493983

and donate any amount that is comfortable for your family. Donors Choose will only post our project on their main site for a maximum of four months. We only have until December 18th before the fundraiser is taken off the main site. We will start the fundraiser beginning August 18th and it will finish December 18th, 2019. All the students at Gold Hill would greatly appreciate your donation in order to make this fundraiser happen for us.
If you have any question please feel free to contact me.

Your support for our music program is greatly appreciated,

Sincerely,

Christopher Morgan---- morganc@fortmillschools.org

Notes from the Nurses

If you are unsure about when to send your child to school and when not to, here are some helpful guidelines.

Fever:

If your child has a fever of 100 or above, please keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin.

Vomiting:

If your child has been vomiting please keep them home until they stop. DO NOT send them if they have vomited during the previous 24 hours.

Sores:

If your child has an open, draining wound do not send them if the wound/sore cannot be covered without leaking through bandage.

Diarrhea:

If your child has 3 or more loose stools in a 24 hour period, please keep them home until diarrhea is resolved for 24 hours.

Pink Eye:

Do not send your child if he/she has drainage from the eye that has to be continually wiped away.

Ringworm:

This is a contagious fungal infection. Please do not send your child is the area can’t be covered with band aid or gauze. Over the counter use of antifungal cream is recommended.

Strep Throat:

Please keep child home until fever free AND 24 hours after treatment.

Lice:

Please keep child home for live lice until treatment given. If nits found ¼ inch near scalp, please keep home until treated. Remove all nits daily with a nit comb. Wash bedding in hot water. Wash all combs and brushes. Re-treat for lice 7-10 days after first treatment.

We would like to ask your help in helping our students stay as healthy as possible. If your student has symptoms of the flu or having a fever of 100.0 and above we ask that you keep them home. DHEC guidelines states a temperature of 100 or higher means your student is contagious, and before sending them back to school that they be free of fever, without a fever reducing medication, for 24 hours.

Our nurse and attendance clerk are willing to work with absences on an as need basis. The teachers will support your student in the catching up phase for missed class work as well.

Let’s all do our part in promoting healthy students at GHES. Remember to wash your hands!
