Kindness Spotted at LMES!
While we focus on reading, writing, math and other academic goals here at LMES, we also spend a good deal of time learning how to be a positive member of a community, how to see things from other people's perspective, and how to help out when needed. Every morning as part of the Morning Announcements that I do with students over the loudspeaker, we share a daily focus for behavioral expectations. Our focus for the beginning of October has been on Respectful Problem Solving. We are explicitly modeling and looking for the following three things: Using our words to solve problems, respecting other people’s words, and listening to what our friends need. In classrooms, students are reading several books to promote empathy and to raise awareness of other people who may look or act differently than themselves (see examples below).
