Your Connection to Human Resources - February 2020
SAVINGS FOR EVERYONE
Retirement and Beyond
Sarah in Human Resources made the switch from a Traditional Health Plan to a High Deductible Health Plan for 2020. Rather than pocketing the savings "to spend at Target, because each time I go there might as well be a $100 minimum at the check-out", she set up automatic payments to go to her Health Savings Account. "I don't miss the money because I was used to not having it, and I can apply it to current medical expenses or save it for later." By save it for later, Sarah is referring to retirement. While she still has many years to enjoy her career, she is thinking about what retirement might look like.
United Way Retire United is designed for anyone who is nearing or in retirement. People should have a great retirement and Retire United can help you realize your goals. You are invited to attend a free workshop offered by United Way Retired United. See the flyer below for more information.

In Human Resources, we'd love to hear what your goals are. If you have questions, we can direct you to the proper resources to assist you in getting started.
PEOPLE CONNECT
Karla Michanowicz and Tammy Bents have been visiting schools across the District, answering any questions you have about benefits, teacher compensation, sick leave allocation, and much more. Watch for the notification of when People Connect will be at your school.
FRONTLINE ABSENCE MANAGEMENT (AKA: AESOP) CONVERSION UPDATE
It's been on everyone's mind, and we want to clarify a couple of things. Yes, Parallel-Ed is still our source for District substitutes. This has not changed. What did change in January is that in place of SubConnect, we have gone back to the Frontline Absence Management platform (formerly known as Aesop), with Parallel Education continuing as the administrator. Aesop provides a more efficient and flexible way to manage substitute staffing. Thank you to all of you who helped make the transition a smooth one.
Please be sure to test your account so that you are ready in the event that you need to create an absence.
The link to Aesop is on the Wausau School District website under Staff-Operational-Aesop. You have the ability to enter your absence for everything except Professional Development. You are encouraged to work with your secretary regarding PD absences. Also, do you have a favorite sub? If so, you can add up to five favorite substitutes to your Absence Management (Aesop) account.
If you need assistance, please call Parallel Education Division at 1-888-987-7753, #1. If you do not receive the assistance you need, please reach out the Human Resources.
We are pleased with this software change and look forward to our continued partnership with Parallel. If you know of anyone interested in Substituting for our District, please refer them to the flyer below.
U.S. Dietary Guidelines recommend consuming 2 1/2 cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit each day. It may seem daunting to eat that quantity, and this challenge is a good way to add more produce to your plate. The Guardian offers some suggestions on how to increase your produce intake. When asked which fruit and vegetables are best, the American Heart Association responds with, "They're all good!".
You can find an infinite number of recipes online, in countless cookbooks, or even asking your co-workers about their favorite dishes. As a general rule, go for a rainbow of colors.
All District employees are eligible to enroll in Interactive Health. If you aren't already participating in the wellness initiative but would like to, all you need to do is sign up here with code Z2FTW.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Can I Use A Pharmacy Discount Card If I Have A HDHP HSA?
Initially, a 2020 drug coupon rule would have excluded manufacturer coupons from an annual out of pocket maximum when a generic equivelent is available. This rule has been dropped due to implementation concerns. It's important to check back for future updates on this as the Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Treasury are expected to revisit this for 2021.
Contribution Limits:
- For 2020, $3,550 single coverage and $7,100 for family coverage
- Employees age 55 and older can make an additional $1,000 "catch-up" contribution
LOCAL PERKS & DISCOUNTS
If you know of any area restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, or other businesses that provide a discount to District employees (or are interested in doing so), please let us know. We'd love to reach out to them to learn more.
