Welcome Back CHS Yellowjackets!
The 2016-17 has already begun. The following song sets the mood for upcoming school year.

College and Career Information
I encourage CHS upperclassmen to utilize the available resources for college & career planning. I posted the Senior Graduation Gear Up presentation for additional looks at key college exams, admissions, and financial aid deadlines. The Colton Joint Unified School District will also host a College & Career Fair on Tuesday October 4, 2016 at the Gonzales Community Center from 5:30-8:30. Look at the Colton High School website for more details.
Banned Books Week
Should students be denied checking out books like The Bible, Captain underpants, Diary of Anne Frank, Harry Potter, Hunger games etc. because some find the material offensive? The CHS Library will take a stand for personal choice by commemorating Banned Books month throughout the month of September.
Library programming will create greater awareness of this pressing issue. Students may create bookmarks or post pictures of themselves with their favorite banned books. I will showcase these images on the Colton High School Library website and the display case. All participants will also be eligible for a Banned Book prize drawing on Friday September 30, 2016.
Got Open Mike Names?
Open mike performances have become a fixture at the Colton High School Library over the years. Now, students request a name representative of the school. What should it be? During the Back to School Open Mike, students will write and vote on a range of possibilities. The winning name will be announced shortly afterwards.

Information Literacy
Finally, as the full time librarian, I will instruct teachers and students towards information literacy. All the words listed on the Wordle apply in this pursuit. Recently, I created a CHS Information Literacy 2017 Padlet as a helpful tool. I will add more resources on this site and other locations to further assist the CHS community throughout the school year.
