From the Principal's Desk:
Happy Spring!
We are fast approaching the end of the school year. Our MCA testing sessions went quite smoothly, and we are wrapping up our remaining spring assessments. As always, it is wonderful to celebrate the growth our students have made! Our teachers and support staff work so hard to ensure that students have made the most growth possible over the course of the school year. Reports will be available to you at the end of the school year via the Parent Portal.
Next fall, we will return to monitoring student progress in the district with an online test, using the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing that we had several years ago. We had moved away from this measure with the Performance Series, which was more closely aligned to MN Standards. However, technical issues that resulted in great frustration to the students and staff caused the district to eliminate that measure this year. The new MAP tests are now better aligned to MN Standards, and students in grades 2-5 will take the online tests starting next fall.
As we transition into the summer months, I encourage you to take a look at all of the various summer programming options available through Community Education. Even if you do not choose the Summer Sunblock program, there are a number of fun and creative enrichment classes that will keep your child actively learning this summer. Please look into the free summer reading program sponsored by the Buffalo Public Library as well! Any way that you can encourage your child to read regularly over the summer will be a huge benefit for academic growth.
Many thanks to all of our Parkside families for supporting your children and our school this year in so many ways. We are so grateful. I am excited to share that we have a number of parents interested in returning to form a more active parent group next year. We will send out notice for a meeting in August for all interested parents to help with planning and implementing activities for our students and their families. Everyone is welcome. If the meeting doesn't work for you, you can be sure to include your name on the volunteer mailing list so you are alerted to the various opportunities as they arise. We encourage families to be involved in any way that works for them.
Have a relaxing and safe summer! We will be eager to see all of you again in late August.
Take care...
-Michelle Robinson, Principal

Summer Food Program Offered at Parkside This Summer
Families will not be asked to fill out paperwork and no names will be taken. Kids just need to show up to eat! Meals include both hot and cold entrees and will be served on a first come/first served basis. Shoes and shirt are required.
For the safety of all children, the district requests a responsible adult, or older child, bring the younger children to the cafeteria, stay with them for supervision, and escort them back out of the school building when they are finished eating.
