9th Grade Course Selections/4-Year Plans

It is hard to believe we are already talking about course selections for the 2021-2022 school year...….but here we are! This year, our 8th grade students will complete their 4-year plan in their College and Career Readiness class. If your student took this course during the first semester, it should already be complete. If your student is taking the class this semester, it will be completed closer to Spring Break. If your student's schedule did not allow for College and Career Readiness to be taken this year, the Knox counselors will be working with these students individually to complete the 4-year plan.

As the 4 year-plans are completed, please remember that this is a working document and is not designed to create stress. We understand that the plans may not be completely accurate but we certainly encourage you to make selections as accurately as possible. The only year that will need to be completely accurate is Year 1 as this will serve as your student's course selections for the 2021-2022 school year. Years 2, 3, and 4 will be reviewed yearly and edited accordingly by the College Park counselors. Once the deadline for changes has been communicated by College Park, we will make this information available. At that point, you will not have access to the 4-year plan and all changes will need to go through the Knox counselors. If you have questions, please feel free to contact your student's Knox counselor.

Math CBE

The Credit by Exam (CBE) for 8th grade math provides an alternate opportunity for students to accelerate their placement and enroll in math courses for high school credit while in junior high school. Students who earn an 80% or higher on the exam will be enrolled in Algebra I for the 2021 -- 2022 school year. This opportunity is for current 7th grade level math students only as all 7th graders taking honors pre-algebra will naturally progress to honors Alg I.

The following criteria should be considered as you decide if your child should register for the 8th Grade Math CBE:

  • Current level math grades
  • Previous STAAR Math and Reading Scores
  • Evidence of Number Sense and Fluency
  • 2020 Math Benchmark Scores
  • Evidence of problem solving with teacher feedback
  • Understanding of math pathways for high school credit

If your child plans to take the CBE for 8th grade math, please reach out to Jolyn Murrin at She will send the permission slip for you to return by January 27 and answer any questions you may have. The test will be administered at Knox and your son/daughter will take the exam in person. Tentatively, the window is set for the last week in February, but a testing date will be shared with you once it is finalized. Your child will have 180 minutes to complete the test in person; no remote administrations will be allowed at this time.

Coming Soon

Grants and Scholarships

It is never too soon to learn about post-secondary options, grants, scholarships and financial aide. We know not all students are college ready. Why not attend a technical school, a community college or get a certification in High School to begin a career? The district has created a video to inform you about your options.

School Emails

Make sure you receive school emails

Some parents have let us know that emails from the school are going into their spam folders. One way to hopefully avoid this is to add your child's teachers and counselor to your contact list. If your child has any additional services you may also want to add those staff members. You can find Knox staff names and email addresses on our campus website at

GT Testing

If you would like your child tested for gifted and talented identification, please contact Jolyn Murrin at by 12/17/20.

Instructional Reminders

Remote Learners

Our goal is to help Remote Learners as much as possible, but we are using an asynchronous model which means direct instruction is not the standard. If a teacher offers opportunities for synchronous instruction, this is a bonus but not required.

We use videos, activities, assignments, etc. to help students' progress. It is important for the remote learner to have self-motivation, self-discipline, and strong study and work habits to be successful.

If a student has questions, they should email their teacher. The teacher will respond as they are able.

Teacher Access

Please be mindful that our teachers’ normal workday is from 8:10 am to 4:10 pm. Some teachers will conduct sessions and answer questions outside of that time on a limited basis. Sessions for our remote learners will be offered at least two times per week and once during the workday.

Teachers are required to update grades into PAC once per week. Please be aware that anything submitted through Canvas must be graded and/or imported into PAC. This means that there could be a period where the assignment has been submitted, but the grade isn’t showing in PAC. The average in Canvas is not the average that will be in PAC because the grades are weighted differently. The PAC average is the one that should be viewed
