Mr. O'Connell's Weekly Updates

4-26-21

HRS Family Survey

WOW! Thanks for knocking this out of the park! Last week I made another plea to families to complete the Family survey for our building---and thank you for pushing our number over 100---we have had 144 parents complete the survey--the most of any other elementary school in CR! Thank you very much! We should have the results from the survey in early May, and we will use this information to guide the goals and action steps for our Parent HRS team.

ISASP (Iowa State Assessment)

Here is a letter from our central offices regarding our state assessment. This lists when remote students will be testing this week and next. We look forward to seeing our 5th grade remote learners this week. When coming to the building please have your child:

  • ring the doorbell and we will let them into the building,
  • bring their chromebook charged with the cord and headphones (please restart the device prior to arriving so that you are able to access all the updates as they are needed to get on the Test Nav site),
  • bring a water bottle and lunch if they do not want school lunch,
  • dress for the weather and bring an extra layer as the temperature may vary
Our in-person 5th graders will finish taking their last test this week.
  • Please make sure that your child gets a good nights sleep,
  • Please make sure they are in school each day on time as we will be testing by 9:30 each morning,
  • Have them bring their water bottle as usual,
  • Eat a good breakfast or we will also be ordering breakfast for students as it is free of charge,
  • Students are allowed as much time as they need to complete the tests. So you can remind them to take their time.

School Fees

School Fees (book fees as is listed on the statement) will be sent home this week with students for those that are still needing to pay their school fees. Thanks for either paying it online from the CR website or you can send into school with your child.

Health Guidelines

We have had a great two weeks back in school! Just a reminder to continue to let us know here in the office if your child has been exposed to someone with the virus or if there is someone in the house with the virus Updated district guidelines

We appreciate you contacting the Nurse (ctrautman@crschools.us or stjohnson@crschools.us) or Mr. O'Connell (goconnell@crschools.us) if you have been exposed or have tested positive for the virus while on break. This just keeps us informed and also helps to keep everyone healthy in return from break.

Newly released this morning:

Governor Kim Reynolds announced lifting Iowa mask rule, but CRCSD mask mandate remains within all school buildings and buses. Additionally, mitigation strategies remain for all school athletics and activities. You can view mask protocol on our Health and Safety site.

Arrival and Dismissal

A phone message was sent out in February regarding being patient as you are picking up or dropping off students at school. Please make sure you are not parking and getting out of your car in the horseshoe as this creates a mess for the flow of traffic. We will be out there in the afternoon to help create 2 lines of traffic so that we can keep the flow moving, we ask that you do not create a third lane as this only makes the flow stagnate.

There is no parking on Atwood on the west side of the school for the bus lane.

Thanks again for your continued patience and support to keep ALL of our children safe at arrival and dismissal.
