3B and 3D Happenings

Week of November 11th-15th

Math

Math WOW: Divisor

This week, learners worked on multiplication. Kiddos reviewed how to use arrays and repeated addition to solve multiplication problems. We also learned about commutative property.

We will continue with multiplication next week and learn about different math strategies we can use when we need help solving a problem.

Science

For science, we have been learning about motion and measuring force. We will continue various experiments in class that will help us grasp force concepts.

Next week, we will learn about using levers for lifting and how friction can stop motion.

Reading and Language Arts

We have been reading Little House in the Big Woods and the kids are loving it! They have so many great questions about pioneer life!

In grammar this week, we learned about how adverbs can tell how, how often, when, and where.

For writing, we started and will continue imaginative stories. Some kids are surprisingly having a difficult time coming up with a completely original idea. Many of us want to use familiar characters, TV shows, books, and movies when making up a new story. I am stretching your learners' imaginations and asking that they be creative and come up with something brand-new. I can't wait to see what they write!!

Social Studies

We will continue to work on our explorer project next week. I've seen some great ideas and can't wait for presentations! Ask your child what they have learned about their explorer!

"Home Fun"

For math, learners should be using Think Through Math or Reflex (coming soon)! Does your learner know their addition and subtraction facts by memory? If not, our goal is to get those memorized ASAP!

For reading, learners have library books and iStation. Please let me know if you need another copy of how to download iStation to your home computer. It's such a great resource!

Important Information

  • Please contact us if you would like to be a chaperone on our field trip. We would love for you to join us! You must have a background check on file for this year. These can be done online through the coppellisd website.
  • Your kiddo will come dressed as a pioneer on Friday, November 22nd! Some ideas for proper pioneer clothing: Boys can wear slacks/jeans, a plain white t-shirt, suspenders, a button-up solid or plaid shirt, a vest, a straw hat, etc. Girls can wear long dresses or skirts with a blouse, an apron, a bonnet, etc. My advice would be to go to thrift stores or ask around! This has been a tradition at Austin for many years, so someone might already have these things laying around!
  • Learners may bring a change of clothes on Pioneer Day, the 22nd.
