GLA Southwest "PARENT WEEKLY"
"Tell Them We Are Rising"
WE WELCOME YOU...
The executive team members of GLASW are honored to serve the most AWESOME FAMILIES on the planet. While working alongside the most AMAZING STAFF in the city, it is our goal to meet the needs of each of our scholars. This year is bound to be an amazing school year as we continue to provide academic experiences for our scholars that are engaging, relevant and second to none. It is important to us that everyone who steps through the doors of our school is excited to be here! This includes faculty, scholars, staff, and parents. This year, we are focused on telling our own story of greatness. As we move toward being a "Model School Reimagined".
With that being stated, our 2019-2020 theme is “Tell Them We Are Rising". As a community of learners, we are working to ensure that all scholars, teachers and staff this year embrace a a great desire for EXCELLENCE. We believe that just as it is important to teach reading and math skills, it is equally important to teach our children about their greatness so they can let others know that "WE ARE RISING". We look forward to partnering with you in this effort!
Please know that your child's academic learning and social emotional growth is of utmost importance to us here at GLASW. We recognize that as parents, you play an important role in your child's education. Therefore, we invite you to take an active role in your scholar’s learning experience by:
- Ensuring they attend school at least 95% of the time this year
- Collaborating with your child’s teacher(s) in order to establish a healthy and successful relationship
- Participating actively in our school-wide fundraisers
- Maintaining open communication to ensure a successful partnership throughout the year
- Commiting to increasing your parental engagement and involvement for the 2019-2020 school year by meeting our parent goals for the year
Educationally Yours,
Dr. Naomi Johnson Booker, Executive Director
Mrs. Tamika M. Evans, CEO/Principal

ADMISSION
Scholars are expected to arrive to school by 8:00AM Each Day
BREAKFAST
Scholars who wish to eat breakfast at GLASW must arrive before 7:55AM.
LATENESS
Our morning routines are critical for scholar achievement. Scholars are expected to be in school by 8am in order to fully participate in Harambee. Please ensure that your scholar is on time each day. After 8:15AM scholars will be marked late. This year we are closely monitoring lateness and attendance and will be setting up truancy meetings with parents whose children consistently arrive to school late.
DISMISSAL
Kindergarten dismissal is at 3:15 PM and 1st-8th Grade dismissal is at 3:30 PM. All scholars must be picked up promptly.
LATE PICKUPS
Late pickups of scholars is a chronic concern for GLASW. A fee of $10.00 every 15 minutes will be assessed after 3:45 PM for any scholar picked up late. On early dismissal days the fee will start after 1:15PM. Fees are due upon pickup. School trips, incentives, and scholar records may be affected by outstanding fees owed.
FULL UNIFORM
All scholars are expected to dress in full GLASW uniform daily. This includes black school shoes. Every Friday is fitness Friday at GLASW and all scholars are expected to be in full GLASW gym uniform. Gym uniforms must be worn with black sneakers - no exceptions!
ALL SCHOLARS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND SCHOOL AT LEAST 95% OF THE TIME. POOR ATTENDANCE PATTERNS LEAD TO LOST INSTRUCTIONAL TIME AND SIGNIFICANT LEARNING GAPS.
MEET MR. JESSIE... OUR TRUANCY PREVENTION COORDINATOR
Greetings! My name is Mr. Tyrone Jessie and I am the proud Truancy Prevention Coordinator at Global Academies.
My primary responsibility is to ensure that your scholars are present every day; but in order for this to happen I need the assistance of all parents and caregivers. As you are aware, in order for children to do well in school, they are required to attend school at a 95% rate during the calendar year. Global Academies’ responsibility is to create a welcoming and stimulating learning environment that fosters the academic development of each scholar. It is the responsibility of the parent (or guardian) to make sure that the scholar is at school on time, well-rested and ready to learn each day.
I am looking forward to working with all of the families of Global Academies. Let’s have an amazing school year. At any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding your scholars attendance please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at tjessie@ga-schools.org.
