Weekly Coaching Communication
Make it a great day -- every day!
19 -- 23 February 2018
Hats off to you!
Here's this past week's amazement:
- Thank you, teachers, for your patience with me in taking a risk to organize a blended learning day for you on Friday. Your adaptations and on-task sincerity are much appreciated.
- Also, thank you teachers, for supporting our students in all of their different endeavors, whether you're present at the event or tweeting or posting on Facebook -- the teachers' support of our students is quite evident.
- Thank you, Mr. Berninghaus, for attending the high school professional learning morning session and learning how special education is finding its way into working with standards.
- Teachers -- AWESOME work with Iowa Assessments! The strengths identified for our building and the district as a whole show we are making an impact on our students and their learning.
- Thank you to the administrators and DRC representatives for taking the time to explain the TLC process and for the vetting you have done for new positions and changes to make our teacher leadership stronger.

Pope's Professional Learning -- Sharing to Build Capacity
Blended Learning and the 4 Cs
From the National Education Association's resource that was shared, this week, I'm going to discuss the final component of creativity:
IMPORTANCE:
As the world sees more global competition and task automation, creativity is becoming a required skill for personal and professional success. Good design and the ability to analyze that design with practical intellect is increasing;y used as a means for weeding out candidates in the labor force. Daniel Pink, author of Drive, claims that "'In a world enriched by abundance but disrupted by the automation and out-sourcing of white-collar work, everyone must cultivate an artistic sensibility . . . we must all be designers.'"
DEFINITION:
To be creative, students need to be able to
- THINK creatively, using a wide range of idea creation techniques, such as brainstorming; create new and worthwhile ideas; and elaborate refine, analyze, and evaluate original ideas to improve and maximize creative efforts.
- WORK creatively with others to develop, implement, and communicate new ideas; be open and responsive to new and diverse ideas; demonstrate originality and inventiveness in work and understand the real world limits to adopting new ideas; and to view failure as a opportunity to learn.
- IMPLEMENT innovation by acting on creative ideas to make a tangible and useful contribution to the field in which the innovation will occur.
RELATION TO OTHER SKILLS:
Creativity is closely intertwined with some of the other 4Cs, as innovation has a social component and the capacity to innovate is linked to the ability to connect with others for communication and collaboration.
