Principal's Message
I hope your are enjoying fall and the cooler temperatures. Thank you all for your support with our fund raising we have been doing through the school and PTA. The money raised goes right back to the kids and helps pay for items like field trips, classroom speakers, school water bottles, student t-shirts and other items that are directly linked to students. As a school, each grade level is asked to plan one field trip per semester.
At this time of year, I hope you have a clear picture of your students strength's as a learner and areas your student may need to improve. Literacy is an area we are focused heavily on at this time. Our goal is that every child be reading on grade level by the end of the year. If your child is below grade level you should have received a letter from the classroom teacher. If you are concerned please reach out to your child's teacher.
I would encourage you to read with your child and reading can be anything - directions for games, stories, signs and practice sight words that are sent home. Talking about what students are reading is also very powerful and helpful. Ask questions - What are you reading? Who is the story about? What problems are in the story? How will those problems be solved? Why do you think the author decided to write this story?
The most important part of reading is enjoying what you read so allowing kids to choose what is read can lead a student to really enjoy reading. My kiddos loved comics when they were little and it helped to establish a reading environment in our home.
