The Westmoreland Wrap Up
September 9, 2022
We had a GREAT FIRST WEEK!
In true Westmoreland fashion, the monsoon did not deter our students, staff and parents from flashing their sunny smiles and welcoming everyone back to school. It was so great to be reunited with our Westmoreland family again.
I can't thank our parent community enough for their positive attitudes, patience and flexibility. Despite a morning of wrestling rainboots, not finding a close parking spot, and lugging multiple, soggy bags of school supplies to the building- YOU WERE STILL SMILING and I appreciate that more than you'll ever know!
Our teachers and staff were here early and helped to usher individual students to their indoor line up locations.
It is THIS TEAM that makes Westmoreland School so special and I am always grateful for all of you!
Looking forward to another great school year,
Christy Dell'Aglio
PTO Popsicles in the Park, 9/9 from 5-7pm
Back to School Night, 9/21
The night offers two IDENTICAL K-4 sessions. This schedule was devised with the hope of accommodating parents of children across multiple grade levels, or perhaps siblings or twins in the same grade level with different teachers.
You will be able to attend one teacher's session from 6:30-7:00 and the second teacher's session from 7:00-7:30.
Specialists' sessions overlap. This will enable you to stop in and meet a specialist or two before or after a homeroom session.
Any questions, please contact Mrs. Dell'Aglio at any time.
Parking, Pick Up and Drop Off
Dropping off my own two children before driving to work can certainly test my patience.
If one person fails to follow traffic rules and patterns, it can throw a wrench into your whole routine....
That is why we need your help! We ask that you please follow all traffic rules during pick up and drop off.
- Please do not double park. The FLPD will be giving out tickets.
- Please do not block any driveways of our surrounding neighbors. They need to get to work too.
- You should only park in the proper direction of the traffic flow. Please do not park facing the opposite direction or facing on-coming traffic.
- Please do not park in areas with painted lines or cones. This ensures our school buses have enough room to turn and navigate the road safely.
- If your child is walking to/from your car. Please HAVE THEM USE THE CROSS WALK. Do not call your child to the car and allow them to cross the street in the middle of the road. This is VERY DANGEROUS. Have your child use the cross walk at the corner and walk to your car on the side which you are parked.
- Please be patient and understanding. Children are watching.
If you are walking or biking to school:
- Please listen to the directions of our Crossing Guards Ken and Len. Wait until they stop traffic and signal you to enter the crosswalk.
- As always, say good morning and thank them for crossing you:)
Thank you to the Westmoreland PTO!
The first Friday of each month is a Westmoreland School Spirit Day! The PTO is running a Spirit Wear Sale. Orders are due by 9/30. See the notice below to order your gear.
Membership forms and pizza sale forms (for 12:45 dismissal days) are also attached below.
Thank you, PTO!
Trimester 1 for the REACH Program
Throughout the school year, your child will take part in whole class enrichment opportunities. Below are some details regarding classes/grade levels taking part in this program during Trimester 1. Mrs. Michelle Kelly is our new enrichment specialist. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to her.
Trimester 1:
Grade 2 Primary Thinking Skills Program Push-In:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. Weekly lessons are provided using the P.E.T.S. (Primary Education Thinking Skills) which is a systemized enrichment and diagnostic thinking skills program that serves a dual purpose of helping in the identification of academically talented learners and teaching students higher-level thinking skills. Through stories and a series of whole class activities, students are encouraged to practice and develop four different thinking skills: convergent, divergent, visual, and evaluative.
Grade 3 STEM:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. The weekly STEM lessons and challenges focus on the Engineering Design Process. Students will learn about how gravity, compression, and tension are important factors when building structures. The students will engage in building challenges using different materials.
Grade 4 STEM:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. The weekly STEM lessons and challenges deepen our students’ experience and understanding of the Engineering Design Process as a strategy to attack real life problems. The STEM challenges are hands-on and encourage risk-taking and experimentation, two necessary components to innovative thinking.
Grade 4 Independent Study - STEM Invention:
This is a Type 2 REACH Program offering. This self-select program is for interested, task committed and highly motivated students. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to plan, design, build and present an original idea.
22-23 School Calendar and Delayed Opening Schedule
PLEASE NOTE: Elementary students have 3 special 12:45 dismissal days due to parent teacher conferences on November 8th, November 10th and March 2nd. Lunch is not served on 12:45 dismissal days. Students are asked to bring a snack or light lunch.
On delayed opening days, students report to school at 10:10am.

Students will take the assessment on-line, in their classrooms during their regularly scheduled ELA and Math Blocks.

Students will participate in the Math Assessment on Wednesday, September 14th.
Students will participate in the English Language Arts Assessment on September 15th.
