Eastview Change to Hybrid Learning
UPDATED February 17, 2021
NEW: Senior Students Return to Hybrid Learning on Monday, February 22
Our seniors will be able to return to the hybrid learning model next Monday, February 22.
Revised guidance for secondary students (grades 6-12) was announced by Governor Walz today, one day after we successfully appealed to the Minnesota Department of Education to bring all four high school grades back to the hybrid learning model on February 22.
With the revised guidance, beginning February 22, all students in grades 6-12 in the hybrid model will attend school in person two times each week as part of cohort A (Mondays and Thursdays) or cohort B (Tuesdays and Fridays). Wednesdays remain distance learning days for all secondary students.
Students enrolled in our Digital Academy will remain in full-time distance learning through the end of the school year unless they request a change to hybrid. See the information below to make this request.

NEW: Important Educational Benefits Information
Pandemic Educational Benefit Transfer: Qualifying families receive approximately $6.82 per day per student for each day in distance learning.
Families in our school district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new benefits.
However, if your family income has been affected by the pandemic and you have not completed an Application for Educational Benefits (free or reduced-price meal application) for this school year, please complete and submit your application by Feb. 28, 2021.
These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT) and will be provided to any family who qualifies for free and reduced-price meals this school year. These additional benefits will be retroactive to September 2020. We urge families to apply right away.
Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.
If you haven’t already done so, complete and submit your Application for Educational Benefits by clicking the button link below.

Cocurricular Activities (students rostered in Eastview led-cocurricular after school activities may remain in the building in a supervised study hall in the east student commons while waiting for practices or events)
NEW: Before and After School
- Eastview will open at 7:15am. The school day ends at 1:42 and students must leave the building at that time (unless they are rostered in a cocurricular activity scheduled for that day or receiving support directly with a teacher). Please plan your transportation to and from Eastview to allow for these times.
- When students enter the building they will have two options; either to eat breakfast or go directly to their first period classroom.
- Students participating in cocurricular athletic and other activities that are led by an adult Eastview program leader, and are on the program’s roster, will be allowed to remain in the building on in-person learning days in a supervised study hall in the east students commons while waiting for practice or rehearsal to begin, if needed, between 1:42pm (end of school day) and 3:15pm (start of practice).
NOTE: Under pandemic circumstances, the school is not a place for students to congregate before or after school. The social distancing precautions mean that students are not to be dropped off before 7:15am and must exit the building by 1:50pm. Students who don’t eat breakfast must report to their first period class upon arrival. Students will NOT be allowed to congregate and will be directed to breakfast or their first period class each morning.
- For students in our District 196 Academy or for Cohort A or B students at home during their distance learning days, the building will open at 3:00pm to arrive for cocurricular activities.
NEW: Q3/Q4 Parking Permits
Refunds for fall parking permits have been processed and issued for $26 (original cost was $48).
Spring Parking Permits may now be purchased using the button link below for $32. These permits will be required beginning Monday, March 8.
Students may use their Q1/Q2 Parking Permit to park at EVHS between Monday, February 22 and Friday, March 5. Students will need a new permit displayed beginning Monday, March 8.
Bus Information
NEW: Student Attendance
- A cohort students will check in for attendance on their Campus app on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
- B Cohort students will check in for attendance on their Campus app on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- C Cohort students will check in for attendance on their Campus app every day.
Beginning Monday, February 22, we will transition to a new hybrid model for our students. The schedule will change for all students on this day.
- Students in grades 9-12 and in Cohort A and B will resume in-person learning two days per week.
- Cohort C students (Digital Academy) will join their Cohort A and B peers with Zoom during classes at their scheduled time for each period.
Our hybrid model is different from what we followed in the fall. We learned a lot from that experience and our plan for this version of hybrid learning is improved and brings with it increased structure and routine for our students.
Our Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous/independent learning days with opportunities for student support and interventions. Students are welcome to be at EVHS for support with food service and transportation available.
Please take time to familiarize yourself with the information provided here. Our dedicated teachers are ready to partner with you and work together to ensure your children, our students, have all the necessary supports to make this transition successful. If we have missed a detail to which you have a question, please let us know and we will get you the answer. Please know that there will be more information coming to you as it is developed.
Take care.
