Literacy
Reading Unit Review, Assessment and Culminating Activities
This week, we will take the Unit 3 assessment for Journeys. It will be a chance to review and practice the skills and strategies learned in our reading program. I will use the assessment to plan my instruction in the weeks to come. We will revisit the stories of Unit 3 "Tell Me About It" and chose our favorite story of the unit. The students will read the Journeys unit stories with a partner.
Word Study: Because we are reviewing Unit 3 there will be no new words for Spelling sent home this Tuesday. Students will review the word principles learned in Unit 3 throughout the week.
Writing: How To
We will begin to study How To texts and identify the features that all How To pieces include. We will then choose a How To idea and begin to draft a How To story using those common features studied. Next week, we will continue to plan, revise, edit and write a How To piece of writing. We will share our writing with the class.
Haddon Township Multi-school Arts Project
The class did an amazing job writing beast narratives, creating heads for their characters from clay and reading their stories live to the High School Ceramics class. Check out the videos of the live readings on Seesaw!

Social Studies
Social Studies: Learn About People
This week we will create unique family trees from the Social Studies homework about our families and our family culture. Through our Social Studies book, the boys and girls will be introduced to four different cultures by listening to stories about different children and their families. The various cultural backgrounds will be explored and the students will learn that knowledge and ideas are passed from one generation to another through memories, experiences and from sharing traditions.
As a class, we will focus on two skills. The students will reading a bar graph and interpreting the information presented. They will also practice following a route on a map. Once a location is determined, the students will use a compass rose to decide the best direction to go and create an appropriate route.
