A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL
Hello Birdneck Families,
I hope you are all doing very well and have been healthy at home. I'm so proud of our Birdneck teachers and families for pulling together to support our students in their learning during the school closure. It's hard to believe we only have two more weeks of school. I've really enjoyed seeing students in the morning meetings and virtual conferences on Schoology but I miss seeing our students and families here at Birdneck and hope we can return to a regular schedule back in the building soon. To allow students the ability to access programs throughout the summer, Chromebooks issued to them do not need to be returned until we begin school again in the fall unless you are leaving/have left Virginia Beach City Schools. If you are leaving our school system you can drop off the Chromebook or any school materials Tuesday-Friday at Birdneck from 9:00-3:00 by appointment.
The last day of new academic instruction will be on June 5th. June 12th is the deadline for all Emergency Learning Plan assignments to be turned in. I want to stress again the importance of students completing these assignments to be prepared for the next school year. It is a requirement for all students to complete the designated assignments given to them by their teachers in Schoology or the alternative assignment sent in the mail. The mailed assignments were sent upon request or due to lack of completion of the electronic assignments. If you have questions about what was assigned to your student, contact your child's teacher via email or through Schoology as soon as possible to ensure your student has completed all required assignments.
Thank you,
RV Yoshida

Parents,
Please encourage your child to continue reading over the summer! Reading for 20 minutes each day accelerates reading growth. Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students may continue using the Smarty Ants and Imagine Learning programs through July 31. Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students may continue using the Achieve 3000 program until July 31. Remember to read everyday and have a terrific summer!
Keep your child connected with Math!
Red Bird will be available through July 31st. Please encourage your child to continue to use this valuable resource to keep up with their math skills over the summer.
