From The Principal
Kia ora koutou
We've hit the ground running once again as Term 4 gets underway, with the children getting straight back into learning and many exciting opportunities ahead.
By now, you should have received a copy of our Key Dates for the weeks ahead, and I'm pleased to confirm that we will also be adding dates for 'Showcase' performances for our Y1 and Y2 tamariki to shine in the spotlight, so watch this space for further details when the days/times are finalised!
A reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is our scheduled Teacher Only Day (focused on the new NZ Histories Curriculum), and you will be aware that Monday is, of course, a Public Holiday.
No doubt this term will fly by, but one major event we are particularly looking forward to is the 2022 Food & Fun Fair (Sunday, 13th November).
Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the fair timeline to see how you can get on board and support our hard-working PTA for the big day and make sure you sign up to help on their 'People Power' roster!
With just a few weeks to go, every contribution and helping hand makes a huge difference, and is very much appreciated.
Ka kite anō i a koutou

MENPS Trees For Survival Enviro Project!
Trees For Survival
The long awaited seedlings for our Trees for Survival programme have arrived on site, ready to be potted and nurtured. These native species will eventually be planted in reserves and along waterways around Auckland!
The Enviro team have been leading the way with potting the seedlings. However, with 1,000 seedlings to plant, the Senior end of the school have been roped in to lend a (very muddy) hand also! The seedlings can be seen flourishing in the shade houses behind Room 29.
Minibeast Hotel
We would be very grateful for the following resources to build our Minibeast Hotel:
- bricks
- small rocks
- small logs
- pieces of broken pottery/terracotta pots
If you have anything that we could use, please contact Ang Cavanagh at angharadc@mteden.school.nz. Thank you!
Halloween Disco!
The disco is on Friday 28th October in the school hall.
Tickets are $5 and on sale now via Kindo!
Y0-3 Disco is 5.30 - 6.30pm. Y4-6 Disco is 7pm - 8pm
- Water and a snack will be supplied to the children.
- Please bring $ for ice blocks - they will be $1 each
- A paper ticket will be given to your child in the days before the disco
- please make sure that your child brings that paper ticket to the disco for entry. - Keep an eye out for information regarding our inaugural Pumpkin Carving competition being judged on the night. Kids are invited to bring along their best carved pumpkin for a chance at a prize.
- A friendly reminder that for security of our young dancers, parents are asked to remain outside the hall during the disco - please note you are welcome to leave the school and return at the discos end time.
- We will ask you to enter to collect your child at the end. For safety, children will need an adult with them to exit the hall after their dance, so please arrange for someone to collect your child.
Senior disco help needed
In our call for Parent Help we have had a huge response for the Junior disco thanks. We are now making a further call to parents of the senior school - please see the sign up form here.
There are lots of jobs available such as filling water cups, helping to give out the food, selling iceblocks, door duty, floor duty, supervision of kids leaving to the bathroom, taking tickets etc.
More detail will be added to the PTA website Halloween page here.
Yummy Apples
In the 2022 campaign we have collected a total of 12,367 stickers – our second highest year to date. In the coming months we will confirm how much $ we have been allocated from the prize pool. Following that equipment will be ordered and shared in the PE shed to use for fitness and PE sessions.
Please continue to collect stickers year round - see the PTA website for more info about this awesome fundraiser.
A huge thank you from the PTA and the school to Bronwyn Williams for coordinating this fundraiser.

With just over 3 weeks until the Fair, keep you handy 4 week countdown on the fridge to reminder yourself of all the key dates! Keep an eye on the PTA website for some exciting announcements too!
Many thanks to the awesome parents and caregivers that have put their hand up to help with stalls at the upcoming fair.
We still need help with few specific roles to help with stalls on the day and in the lead up to the event on November 13th.
Help running the fun activities
- Jousting bouncy castle coordinator
A new inflatable that will definitely prove popular. You will only need to manage the queue at the entrance. You will have several helpers during the day to help manage the queue and time the participants.
- Face Painters
Our coordinator needs your help. Are you artistically talented and/or have some experience painting? All paint and equipment provided. Have fun transforming kids into pirates and butterflies!
- Samosas stall coordinator
We have ordered the samosas and need someone to help coordinate this stall. We have lots of info about how this has been run in the past and just require a main point of contact for this popular food stall.

Support our school by eating a delicious Roast at The Bridgman.
Seems too easy but $10 of every kids meal goes directly to our school funds. All you need to do is book your table and put MENPS into the ‘requests’ box and they will donate the profits of your kids meals back to the school.
Easy right?
Just book here - The Bridgman | Corner of Dominion & Valley Roads | Carefully curated food, drinks & cocktails.
The Bridgman are also generously running a food stall at the upcoming Food & Fun Fair.
Come join us for a summer of fun!
We are needing more junior players aged 10 and younger to join our teams playing tee ball.
Tee-ball is an introduction to softball, played on Saturday mornings at Fowlds Park in Western Springs.
It's a fun time had by all, learning ball skills and making friendships.
We welcome you to join us.
