Principal’s Corner
Dear Henderson Families,
Time is precious and indeed it flies. It seemed like yesterday, I was provided the honor of being the leader of Henderson Middle School. It is an honor as the community has entrusted me with our most valuable assets, our children. The growth of our students and staff has been tremendous this year. We have seen positive movements with our staff working together to understand the mission of our school, we have seen a growth in our students academic status as well as social emotional being, and we have seen an increase in parental involvement. I am proud of the relationships we have built throughout the school year. It has been a true joy connecting with many individual students, staff, families as well as community members.
For our eighth graders entering high school, I am wishing you the very best as you embark on a new journey as young adults. Please know that every moment counts. Let’s not waste a day of school and begin the process of setting goals for your future. Your grade point average counts and that means completing all assignments, preparing for your tests, and seeking help when needed. HMS staff is rooting for your success, reach for the stars and soar high!
I also look forward to having another year with our returning students. With the positive growth we have had, I will be counting on returning students to be great leaders. Our School Leadership Team will be developing our School Improvement Plan. The plan will lay out our year-long goals, action plans, and measurement tools to determine our students' success. We also will be providing professional development opportunities to our staff to better meet the needs of our students.
The greatest predictor of student success is having an involved parent. For the 2019-2020 school year, our team will be reaching out to families and asking for support. Support in terms of ensuring students are at school and on time, students are adhering to behavioral expectations, and students are engaged in the the academic support being provided to them.
Thank you for a wonderful year! Please see more school news below.
Sincerely,
Ms. Appiah-McNulty
