Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of October 22nd
Highlights From Last Week....
This week our class read stories about how tools help us learn. Your child learned about different tools and what they are used for.
We learned the vocabulary words: tools, discover, fetch, rumble, and defeated. Our sight word was "a" and we focused on the letter Pp.
In Math, we worked on decomposing numbers with totals up to 10. We wrote numerals 1-10 in order. We learned how to write the numbers and use the numeral to represent a quantity. We also solved word problems by acting them out.
A peek at our learning this week...
This week our class will be focusing on the shapes they see in nature and in our neighborhood. Children will also be reading about the shapes they see around them.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: materials, nature Invite your child to hunt for shapes found in nature or on materials. Then invite your child to draw pictures of each item.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: like Write the word like on paper and have your child trace it. Then say sentences and have your child write like each time you say the word.
Category Words: shapes Say simple riddles that include different shape words. Have your child guess each object.
Phonics: t Invite your child to play a game of “I Spy.” Say sentences and have your child find objects whose names begin or end with the letter t, such as I spy a table. I spy a pot.
In Math, we will work on adding one more. We will write numerals 1-10 in order. We will also solve word problems by acting them out.

A Note From Mrs. Maillet
Your children are making great progress. I have assessed your children on the letters that we have learned so far. We are definitely making gains, but we still need a bit of work on our letter and sound knowledge. PLEASE use the flashcards that we sent out last week to review the letters and sounds NIGHTLY. If they have mastered the letter name, please work on the letter sound. The other area that we need some work on is letter writing. Please work with your children at home on forming the letters correctly.
Book orders have been sent home and I will be placing the order on October 26th. Thank you for your continued support.
Using tools to learn!
Using a magnifying glass to discover new things.
We love using our tools!
A note from Miss Berube
Also every monday our class has media (library). I try to remind the children to bring their borrowed library books back but it is hard to remember over the weekend. We have been getting better though!
There will be a Halloween dance on Friday October 26th from 6pm-8pm!
A big thanks to the sponcers who made it possible for all kindergarteners to take home a new book each month! We all really appreciate it.
Everyone has been working hard with their letter naming and letter sounds. A little practice at home goes a long way!
Thanks for all you do! Have a great week!
A Note from Mrs. Marcoux
Reminder that there is no school on Wednesday, Oct. 24 due to a teacher professional day. I tell the students that teachers need to learn too!
As you have noticed, the weather seems to get colder by the day (ugh!). Please make sure your children are prepared for outdoor recess with coats and mittens.
The PTO will be sponsoring a Halloween dance for the students on Friday October 26th at ACES. It was a big hit last year!
A huge thank you to our friends and sponsors who made it possible for each child to bring home a new book on Friday. We read the story together and the children were so excited to take the book home "forever".
Have a great week!

A note from Mrs. Webb
Reminder...there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, October 24th due to a teacher Professional Development Day.
Brrr!!! The cold weather is quickly getting colder. Please make sure your child's jacket is labeled with his/her name. Also, if you can somehow label hats and mittens that would be great too!
We have been working so hard on our letter names and their sounds. Please continue to practice these skills at home. I sent home a Fluency sheet and a dice last week. Have your child roll the dice and read that row of letters as quickly and accurately as he/she can. If you feel like your child has mastered the name of the letters, he/she can do this same process naming each letter sound.
Thank you to the Athol Community for the book for each kindergarten student. This month, we got the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, Not Good, Very Bad Day! Our class is so grateful for the donations that allow us to get a new book each month!
New Scholastic book orders went home Friday. The due date for these orders is November 9th. Please let me know if you ever want to give your order as a gift to your child. I will notify you when the order comes in an we can arrange a way to get them home to you without your kindergartner knowing!
The Halloween Dance is Friday, October 26th from 6:00-8:00. If you have any questions about this dance please feel free to reach out to me or email PTO President Meghan Cote at acespto123@gmail.com. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this great event!
I hope you have a great week!
