Daylight Savings Time - Spring Ahead!
Face Mask Update
Governor Newsom and Dr. Mark Ghaly from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that the indoor face covering/masking order for K-12 school settings will no longer be required but strongly recommended. This will become effective in VUSD on Monday, March 14, 2022.
“After March 11, in schools and child care facilities, masks will not be required but will be strongly recommended.” - Governor Newsom
As a result of this change in the mask-wearing requirement from the CDPH, face coverings/masks will be optional for all students in all Vista Unified schools starting on Monday, March 14, 2022. Click HERE to view the updated CDPH guidance.
The Vista Unified Board of Trustees met on February 9, 2022 to revise Board Policy #0470 - Safe Reopening and Operation of Schools. The revision included the alignment of all COVID-19 related procedures and protocols to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirements. This includes the requirement for students and staff to wear masks while indoors on school campuses until Monday, March 14, 2022. From March 14th forward, all students will no longer be required to wear a mask while inside classrooms and other school buildings; however, all students have the option to continue to wear a mask indoors and outdoors. We expect all members of our school community to respect each individual student and staff choice.

Concerning Recent Vandalism
We believe it is very important to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students and staff at Vista High School. Recently, we have seen a resurgence of acts of vandalism in our restrooms, and there have been restroom service interruptions. Our staff works quickly to address these issues and we also are working to encourage positive behavior on our campus. Please remind your students that if they see something, to say something. Let's all respect our Vista High School home. Thank you!

Safety Corner
Safety is our highest priority here, so this week we completed our quarterly Secure Campus & Lockdown Safety Drill. During a Secure Campus & Lockdown Drill, our entire campus runs through a calm practice scenario of how to lock doors and gates, and secure all students inside safe rooms on campus when needed.
Our safety drills are a three part process, including training our staff before a drill, educating our students about our safety procedures during the drill, and debriefing and addressing findings after the drill. All of these parts are important. Using this process, we are able to rehearse and continually improve our ability to quickly execute clear safety systems, should a need ever arise. In addition, our leadership and campus security have been training with the County Office of Education in coordination with law enforcement in a special multi-part "Diamond Safety Training" which further our professional development in this area.
As part of our annual safety planning process, we have developed our 180-page Comprehensive School Safety plan, which is available for public review in the front office. Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility, so if you see something, hear something, or know something, say something. Let's keep our Panther community a safe and healthy place to be!

New Covid Testing Five Days a Week at VHS
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Since our schools recently pivoted to Group Tracing, we understand that receiving a group notification letter and testing an exposed student can be challenging. We can help!
We are excited that we are able to offer free COVID testing by Inspire Diagnostics five days per week at VHS. Your student is welcome to test any day by walking into the testing room in the B building where there is a testing center flag. At the high school level, we will not be taking them to test - it is their responsibility to go during their breaks or ask for a pass during Panther Time.
To give your permission for students to be tested, please click here: Parent Permission for Student COVID-19 Testing. You will need your child's 9-digit student ID number to complete the form.
This is not a requirement, but a service we are providing to help simplify the testing process for your family. The test results will be sent directly to you, the parent. Please call the school with any positive result. Results may also be shared with the school.

School Accountability Reports (SARC)
State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.
The SARC contains all of the following:
- Demographic data
- School safety and climate for learning information
- Academic data
- School completion rates
- Class sizes
- Teacher and staff information
- Curriculum and instruction descriptions
- Postsecondary preparation information
- Fiscal and expenditure data

The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
