A Note from our Principal
Greetings, WPA Families,
School Wide Service Day - Sept 9th, 1:30 p.m. - Until Complete - THIS FRIDAY!
We are excited to expand our school service learning program with our first school-wide family service project. We will be working with Woods Cross City to honor the National Day of Service in remembrance of September 11th on a park clean-up project. Please bring your family and join us to help beautify our community and make a positive difference in our world.
See the flyer below for details!
Talking About 9/11 with Kids
Talking about difficult times in our history with kids can be challenging. We were interested to learn about The 9/11 Project, a local multi-media, community resource fair, and the "Touch-a-Truck" exhibit at the Davis County Fairgrounds this week. This project allows students to engage with history and understands events more deeply. It came so highly recommended by parents that we wanted to be sure to share it with families. You can learn more about it here.
Volunteer Background Checks
We place a high priority on student safety and require background checks for all classroom and field trip volunteers. We will be hosting background checks here at the school on September 13th, starting at 10 AM. There is a $25 fee to complete the background check; you must bring your ID. If you have had a background check with us in the past, you are still in our system and do not need to repeat the process. Background checks are eligible for fee waivers if applicable.
Electronic Devices in School
This is a friendly reminder that per Wasatch Peak Academy Policy, electronic devices, if brought to school, must remain out of sight in a bag or backpack and be turned off during the School day. You can access the full policy here.
Professional Development Day- No School Sept 26th
There will be no school for students on Sept 26th while teachers and staff meet to learn, plan amazing things, and sharpen our skills. Enjoy the extra time with your family!
Fall Festival
Please mark your calendars for our Fall Festival! It will be Friday, October 7th, from 4:30-7:30. It is a beautiful way to support the school, meet new people in our community, and enjoy an evening with your family. It is also an excellent way to get in some volunteer hours. Reach out to our PTO if you are willing to help us out with this delightful event.
Class Placement and Beginning of Year Assessments
Placing students in the right classroom environment ensures their individual needs are met. We are proud to be a leading school in South Davis County for student growth. We feel that a combination of classroom placement, robust support programs, and a strong intervention model are a cornerstone of this success. We use a variety of assessments and careful thought and consideration in class placements each year. Still, we recognize that it is normal and expected for students to grow and develop at different rates. One summer can impact growth for a student as well. With that in mind, we start each school year by reassessing students (and again in January) to ensure that our program works for ALL students. While we often get the placement right, there are occasions when we need to change a student’s classroom to meet their needs best. We are always happy to give additional information about class placement. If you have questions regarding your student’s class placement now or throughout the year, please contact Mrs. Pilkington.
