Know Your Apps
Technology is becoming more and more a part of our daily lives. Smartphones and Tablets can be a great way to help students learn, but there are still potential dangers that go along with technology. A seemingly endless amount of apps exist and are tremendously easy to download onto our devices. Students might know their way around technology better than some adults, which is why it is so important to know what is happening on your student’s devices and who is trying to connect with them.
Social media apps are typically the apps that should be monitored the closest and deserve the most of your attention. There are so many social media apps to download, it would be nearly impossible to discuss them all or to know how they work. Many of them allow people to communicate with others from anywhere in the world and across all ages, which is why it is so important to know what is going on with the apps.
The best thing to do is to check out what your student is doing on their devices. Check what apps on our the device and then do some research yourself. Learn what each app does and make sure that it is a safe platform for your student. Education is the best way to keep everyone safe. Also, try to have a conversation with your child about these apps. Having an open discussion can be huge in knowing what is going on and to stay proactive. Stay informed, stay safe!
