Band Olympics 2019

Thanks to all who participated in the 2019 version of the Band Olympics. This year's competition was fierce and we had a three way tie-breaker for third place! This year's results are: 3rd place - Makayla's Euphoniums, 2nd place - Cager's Drumline and Champions - Edgar's Trumpets!

And We're Off!

As we begin school on Monday, I want to wish everyone a great year at SHS! Remember the quote, " If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." ~ Tony Robbins

In other words, if you want more out of school, band or life in general, you have to put more into it. The old phrase, "It is better to give than receive" has always proven to be true in my life. I have found that what I receive from giving is always worth much more than simply receiving. Work hard. Test yourself. Push yourself and don't give up."Winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit." ~ Edwin Louis Cole Let's make this the best year ever!!!

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS

Our normal rehearsal schedule will begin this week. Monday Night rehearsals will begin tomorrow from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. This week we will rehearse at SHS but starting on August 26, we will rehearse at Porcupine Stadium. There will be a shuttle bus to take students from SHS to the stadium if needed. It will pick students up at 5:30 pm. Parents will need to pick your student up at the stadium at 8:30 pm.

Morning rehearsals will begin on Tuesday and are daily from 6:40 - 7:40 am. Students are expected to be in block with instruments and lanyards by 6:40 am. Students who are tardy will run 3 laps and excessive tardies/absences will result in removal from the competition show. The Band Hall will be open between 6 - 6:15 am everyday if you need to be dropped off early.

SENIOR FOCUS

Big picture

Edgar Aguilera

Edgar is our first Senior in this year's senior focus section. Edgar is the son of Jose and Dora Aguilera. He plays the trumpet and is the Band President.

Edgar's favorite memory in high school band was doing a "shout-out" to himself at the Midlothian contest his freshman year. His advice to the underclassmen is: "use the bathroom before you get on the bus so we don't have to stop for you to pee in the bushes."

Edgar's hobby is practicing ;) and in 5 years he sees himself still being in college.
