March 13, 2020 Information for our Families
VUSD SCHOOL CLOSURES
Based on consultation with the San Diego County Office of Education and the San Diego County Health and Human Services, Vista Unified School District will close all schools and programs starting on Monday, March 16, 2020 through the end of spring break. We will reopen on Monday, April 6, 2020. This decision was made to curb the potential transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
By now, you should have received the most recent Community Health Alert from Superintendent Dr. Doyle that announces VUSD school closures starting March 16. We will re-open on April 6, 2020. Our district has created a very helpful Health and Safety Website that is updated regularly. Please know that VUSD and Roosevelt are committed to the health and safety of all students and staff and that this is our primary focus.
Vista Unified staff will be sending more information regarding plans to continue providing learning opportunities for students during the closure. In the meantime, students can be encouraged to read, work on any missing assignments or ongoing projects, and/or continue working on iReady lessons if they have access. We will communicate more information as it becomes available. Teachers will still be submitting grades for progress reports, and these will be sent out in early April.
Vista Unified is also developing a plan to continue providing nutrition and other support during this time. Child Nutrition Services is finalizing the plan for food distribution centers and will be sending communication to families about where and how to access these centers.
The Roosevelt office will be closed, so no one will be available by phone; however, all staff, including teachers, will be available by email. Please understand that response times may be longer than usual, but we will get back to you at our earliest convenience. Staff will not be available during our regularly scheduled Spring Break from 3/28-4/5.
In these uncertain and unprecedented times, Roosevelt staff appreciates the collaboration and support that we have seen among members of our school community. We will continue to work together to ensure that our students, staff, and community are healthy, safe, and supported through this situation.
Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding!
Sincerely,
Heather Golly

PAWS of the Month: Responsibility
Middle school presents the ideal opportunity for our students to be more responsible and accountable for their actions. Roosevelt Middle School encourages students to think ahead and consider any potential consequences that may result from students’ behaviors. We encourage students to consider the impact they are having on others, themselves, and the environment.
Reminders
Do you want to really know how school is going? To see your child’s grades in real time, please sign up for Weekly Aeries Progress Reports. Click here to learn how.
Would you like to receive school information via text messages? To sign up click here.
School Safety: Parents, please remind your students to use the crosswalk when arriving or leaving school. The heavy traffic makes it unsafe for students because drivers may not see them as they cross the street.
Attendance: Attendance is key to student success! Please encourage your student to attend school everyday and arrive on time. Remember, absences must be cleared within 72 hours (3 school days) after student returns to school. We also appreciate when you schedule dental/doctor appointments outside of the school day to avoid instruction interruptions. Parents if you are planning a trip in which your student will miss 5 or more school days, please notify the attendance two weeks in advance to set up an independent study contract.
Health Office: Parents of 6th grade students: The Tdap vaccine is required to start the 7th grade. Reminders will be sent home monthly. Please turn in updated immunization records to the health Office. Please call the Health Office if you have any questions.
If you notice that your student could use a little extra help, our B.L.A.S.T. (Boost Learning
After School Tutoring) is now open! B.L.A.S.T. aims to help students succeed in their classes in a fun and supportive environment after school. There is a maximum of 35 students allowed per classroom, so come on over after school before spots will up! Tutoring takes place 3:15pm - 4:15pm. Click here to take a look at the BLAST schedule.
