District to present emerging recommendations for programs, facilities
CMSD will present emerging recommendations for the future of academic programs and facilities at both K-8 schools and high schools when a series of six community meetings begins Saturday, Oct. 19.
Two meetings will be held that day – at 10 a.m. at Jane Addams Business Careers Center, 2373 E. 30th St., and 1:30 p.m. at James Ford Rhodes Campus, 5100 Biddulph Rd.
(CEO Eric Gordon discusses the planning process in "Talk to the CEO." See video above.)
The District has shared data and gathered feedback from the community at a series of meetings on K-8 schools and high schools. CMSD will continue to collect feedback.
The Board of Education could vote on recommendations as early as November. The soonest that any changes would occur would be in the 2020-21 school year.
Cleveland’s population patterns have changed over the last five years, and the Board of Education wants to ensure that the taxpayers’ investment in their school facilities matches the community’s needs. The independent Bond Accountability Commission has also called for a fresh look, citing trends in enrollment and construction costs.

The first two sessions will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Lincoln-West Campus, 3202 W. 30th St., and Wednesday, Oct. 30 at East Tech High School, 2439 E. 55th St. Additional sessions will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, March 4 at locations that are to be determined. Apply now for college, Say Yes
October is College Application Month in Ohio.
Parents of CMSD seniors, that means it’s a good time for them to fill out both a college admissions application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.
Seniors who graduate from CMSD high schools can receive Say Yes to Education scholarships, which will pay up to the full cost of tuition, minus federal and state aid. The scholarships pay tuition and fees but don’t cover expenses such as books, room or board.
